It would be busy on the Newcastle - Portsmouth train ?

    :emoticon-0138-think

Of the 4 names mentioned on this thread I would go

    Viera

    Karanka

    McLaren

    Laudrop

    in that order of preference.

Carver will get the job. This is all just smoke and mirrors.

Apparently Vieira is being interviewed for the post of Assistant Head Coach. He feels his career progression plan is best served by spending time working under Carver. You have to learn from the best when you have the opportunity. I doubt he will commit until Carver rules himself out from the Real Madrid job though.

Got to say after reading that Vieira was holding talks yesterday, I'm more excited than I've been for a while but I also know we could easily have a bump back down to earth and end up with someone like the constant failure Steve McClaren.

Please be Vieira, like many have said before me. He is a natural leader and one that will give the players who don't give 100% a kick up the back side. Plus his City U21s team is very attacking minded.

    Oh and first post, Hi!!

If it's McClaren or Carver they can **** off and Ashley and Charnley can as well. McClaren is just another Alan Pardew with a shocking record and Carver is an inept **** with an arsehole for a mouth and the tactical nous of Frank Spencer.

    Remi Garde - Yes.

    Patrick Vieira - Yes.

Even if the guy isn't tactically up to speed yet, it would be a huge moral boost to have someone like Viera managing the team. He'll understand very well how to coach the younger talent, and I think the likes of Sissoko, Anita and Coloccini would blossom under him.

I could see us losing a few games horribly, but winning quite a few games beautifully as well.

    This.

The club, the fans and the players need a lift. Vieira would bring that.
The prospect of McClaren as manager is about as exciting as a Tessa Jowell porno.

Yes, but I don't see us lying down for games like the local derby under Viera, and Viera has an excuse that he's inexperienced, where as Pardew is just old and **** and has no excuse.

I don't mind us finishing mid table as long as we win a derby, play with passion and commitment and pull off a couple of great unexpected wins. Passion, pride and commitment. This wasn't there under Pardew.

I bet it's Carver. If they have shortlisted Carver then they want shooting.

Fully committed as a player, didn't suffer fools and always willing to speak his mind ...... Roy Keane didn't do too well did he?
That being said I still can't help but get excited over prospect of Vieria. I was well up for McLaren coming but now I'd feel slightly disappointed which is a really weird thing to say given the potential Keano example

Tancredi Palmeri reckons Vieira is nearly a done deal.

In terms of odds - just citing this as Vieira kind of came out of nowhere - both Cocu and De Boer have been early movers this morning. Ladbrokes now have Garde as 10/1.

I think it's Vieira. Why? Because he fits in with the French recruitment policy and also he is someone that the existing players will look up to and respect. Sissoko especially. I am going to be disappointed if it turns out to be McClaren or Garde now.

If it is Viera then it will mean Ashley has learnt something. Viera won't accept a position where he is being set up to fail, which would mean that he has been promised decent investment and at least a significant say in recruitment.
