These boys potentially have a proper horse on their hands, I cant help feel that if Havlin could have done the weight we might be toasting a winner as he knows the horse so well and when squire learns to switch off we will see a horse better than the grade he contested today!!! Well done fellas
Fantastic run ! showed that his new mark is certainly one he can win from once again. I don't think it would have made much difference because I feel the winner won well and was not fully extended, however I was crying out for Rab to let him go when he was holding onto him. Squire takes an age to hit top gear but top gear is a good speed and so once again he was doing some of his best work at the end, with another half a furlong or being let race half a furlong earlier could he have got closer? maybe even nicked it? Minor questions however as most races throw up but nevertheless a great run and Stick must be thrilled with that as each turf performance is better than the last.
Ahhh so it wasn't Rab - that explains the slightly different tactics. This is a horse that really needs riding a certain way every time. The instructions must always be sit behind the first 2 or 3 but go for home first and a furlong earlier than you think you should as he will not hit top gear until much later than most horses but will continue it for longer than most once he hits. We have never seen the horse bottomed yet as has always been finding more in every single race by the time the post comes - and that is what is exciting.
Chuffed to bits with that fellas. Two out I thought he would win. The one that beat him was on the other side of the track, had he been on our side our boy might have gone better with him and given him a proper race. Great that he ran so well and acquitted himself so well in such a good grade! Thanks for all the encouragement fellas...very much appreciated.
Go on Squire my son! Another solid effort. Good stuff The Don and stickler, lotta fun this lad is giving you, must be great the adrenaline buzz and emotions he puts you through.
Stick, Don: what a bonny little fighter you've got there - never knows when he's beaten. You must be very proud of him.
too tough...........for our gutsy battler...........it seems not fella, wish I had got 14's but happy to be on at 12's and 11's!
Well done today lads! Just watched a replay of the race - fantastic Horse you have on your hands!! Just remember us when your picking up a big Saturday handicap trophy
I would be very tempted to try and send him on outrageously early in a good race and say catch me if you can - I would really like to see how long he can go for before he starts stopping. If you watch each race Stick he has never got to the bottom yet, in each race he is still going on at the end. It is fair to say that until you find out at which point he stops you have yet to find out how good he is - if you watch todays race two horses were not bottomed, the winner and Squire.
Well done to all the Squire crowd – he ran a very good race, even pipping my horse for second at the post! Clearly he is improving rapidly so I wonder whether the plan of attack might be to go for a race in the next week before the handicapper gets a chance to re-assess the form. I do wonder whether the winner had the run of the race but I hope that all the money that piled on the runner-up during the day was each-way so the £2,695 for finishing second was not the only reward. Looking back at the race, Squire threw down his challenge in the last two furlongs and was clearly in contention with two or three others that (a) had more weight to carry; and (b) had solid form in the book. There do not appear to be any reasons for thinking that this was not a good race so I expect that the next time he runs he will end up favourite just from weight of money off this forum!
Just watched again now we are home Bluesky and I didn't really realise that he was actually gaining all the way to the line. He made up a length on the third in the last 100 yards! He has three failings; 1) he needs something next to him to really extend him 2) he idles when he gets to the front 3) he runs with the choke out early every time. Honestly he does none of this at home, the lads say he is the most switched off galloper in the yard. He has a great cruising speed and he finds plenty at the finish but he isn't the easiest of rides. I thought Morris did well and he said he will certainly win in this grade! I think to see the real best of him a stiff finish like Sandown is required. There is a race there for him in two weeks and another on Eclipse Day so we may head there next. We have to be delighted with him but still think we are yet to see his best! We think there is a decent race in him this season, fingers crossed. Thanks for all the kind messages chaps, really does mean a lot to us! PS, QM, we really hope it will only be a pound or two!
I agree. The handicapper usually looks to hammer the winner and raise the others accordingly. I do not think that Forgotten Hero ran too much above his rating, it was simply that the race worked out well for him from where Ryan Moore found himself placed. The winner may pick up five or six pounds for winning (which may nail him – just 3 from 21 career), so Squire will not get heavily punished for second.
Well done squire, I thought he ran with great credit. Looking back it looks like a strong race, I think the winner was good , but squire was plugging on gamely at the end to get up for second . You can't ask for much more. You must be over the moon with these past two performances at HQ. Living the dream. I'm so jealous
Before Godolphin let him go mate. They don't like selling entires (just in case). He does look a bit like his Dad!
