Moyes wants to manage a CL team and wont step down to a team like us. Although his Win percentage at Utd was 52%, this wasnt apparently good enough. Im sure we would all kill for a win percentage that high... please log in to view this image ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve McClaren, Wally with the Brolly etc etc Personally think he could be successful with us, used to the Director of Football system through his days in the Netherlands and plays attacking football if Derby is anything to go off please log in to view this image ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phillip Cocu, linked with him most recently. Superb player that would demand respect however managed only PSV. Although his overall win percentage is 62.89% this is the Dutch league and he is managing one of the best teams in it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Patrick Viera is another who has been linked, similar to Cocu in fantastic player that would demand respect however very little managerial experience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Slavisa Jokanovic, recently left Watford, managed 5 clubs, that with the exception of Hercules being terrible however only 5 games, looks like he would be quite a shrewd move. please log in to view this image ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Laudrup, personally not a fan, although a brilliant player in his time he seems to be similar to Moyesy in thinking he should be managing top teams without really proving anything. please log in to view this image ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sean Dyche, cant imagine anyones favourite but looks according to his stats a solid enough manager. Was never given the money to improve Burnley so think it was always a hard task for him to keep them up. please log in to view this image
Please edit that mate. For our own dignity. He's not even in consideration and was ruled out mid may after Gus left as not fitting the type we want by a far better source from someone who's actually itk and close to the club. He just doing an Pardew and ruling himself out of jobs that he has no chance in getting.
Other than that it's a good thread fella. Should be our manager thread rather than the dick turning us down thread
Just the bit claiming he's turned us down. The man is a fantasist. If he was offered Sunderland he'd take it. http://www.sunderlandecho.com/sport...allardyce-not-on-sunderland-s-radar-1-7261934
Could be a while yet. No instant fix for Sunderland as Congerton searches for new manager please log in to view this image Lee Congerton, Sunderland's sporting director [email protected] 08:25Friday 29 May 2015 0HAVE YOUR SAY Sunderland are not expecting to land an instant replacement for Dick Advocaat, despite an awareness that the clock is ticking. The Black Cats are busy considering contingency plans for the head coach’s position after being left disappointed by Advocaat’s decision to retire from club football, rather than extend his tenure at the Stadium of Light. Congerton has at least been able to consider a variety of options during Advocaat’s two-month tenure, while he has held fresh talks with his scouting team, plus European contacts, over the last week when it became apparent that the former Holland manager was likely to reject Sunderland’s advances It is unlikely that there will be an imminent appointment made, as was the case back in March when Advocaat was confirmed as Gus Poyet’s successor within 24 hours of the Uruguayan’s dismissal. But sporting director Lee Congerton is well aware that the pressure is on him to line up a suitable alternative within the next month. Sunderland’s players will be back for pre-season training at the start of July, while, just as is importantly, there is only so much Congerton can do in the transfer market before then, without a head coach at the helm. Congerton is able to look at contract extensions, line up potential summer signings and offload those surplus to requirements, yet he realises it is difficult to land reinforcements without a man in the dug-out. However, Congerton has at least been able to consider a variety of options during Advocaat’s two-month tenure, while he has held fresh talks with his scouting team, plus European contacts, over the last week when it became apparent that the former Holland manager was likely to reject Sunderland’s advances. Real Madrid assistant Paul Clement has been on Congerton’s radar for several months and he remains a candidate who is seriously admired. But Sunderland would need to hijack Clement’s move to Derby County as Steve McClaren’s replacement (where he has reportedly been offered a £3million-a-year contract, while the Black Cats also hold reservations over his lack of front-line managerial experience. That is a box which is ticked by David Moyes and the ex-Manchester United manager is a candidate who has plenty of support among members of Sunderland’s hierarchy after his exploits at former club Everton. However, Moyes has repeatedly stressed this summer that he wants to remain at La Liga outfit Real Sociedad and is not looking to return to the Premier League at this stage, after speculation linking him with Newcastle and West Ham. Burnley boss Sean Dyche is another possibility who is admired by Sunderland and was in Ellis Short’s thinking prior to the appointment of Poyet. But, as reported on several occasions over the last month, bookies favourite Sam Allardyce is not thought to be on Sunderland’s hit-list, while there were reports yesterday that the ex-Newcastle boss is not interested in the position anyway.
Congerton needs to run ALL of your bad eggs out of town before employing a new guy, otherwise whoever comes in is on a hiding to nothing. There's been enough managers chased out who turned up with all the promise in the world, the players are your biggest problem. Shed the idiots and it opens up a world of options for managers who could come in and be successful. If I was to speculate, I'd say O'Shea, Fletcher, Johnson and probably Cattermole are the vermin at your club, although that's just a guess.
The Magic Roundabout thread. Don't forget Zebedee, Ermintrude, Brian and Dylan. So far all newspaper speculation so hopefully talks behind the scenes progressing.
Not gonna get rid of Johnson due to his current predicament mate Catts is a superb player and has grown up during his time here Fletcher although a massive drinker doesn't look as if he has much say in the dressing room JOS on the other hand is already a disliked character amongst our fans, too old for the pace of the league now and most fans firmly believe he is the one causing the player power
I'm watching things with regard to Philip Cocu at the minute Just wondering if he could be an Advocaat recommendation
Your opinions mate, fair enough. The pattern keeps repeating itself over and over, I'm just looking for reasons why. Ostriches can stick their heads in the sand and blame all the managers but I'd be pointing fingers firmly in the direction of your players.
Oh I agree with its the players that should be taking blame after all this time now But doesn't help when you get a manager like PDC who slags them off in the press and implements daft rules
I dunno about PDC, he went about things the wrong way for me but at the same time, if players are going to act like kids they should be treated accordingly. I think any manager worth their salt will think twice about working with a squad that has clearly got deep rooted issues, like I say, Congerton could do himself a big favour in terms of who will take that job if he managed to cull a few bad eggs before hand.
He may be a typical Teeside chav but that lad gives 100% every game. I ain't labeling anyone who gives his all every time he steps on the pitch as Vermin.
Unfortunately mate the problem is there are players who think they are bigger than the club and also a lot of **** in the team... Sure many would agree that JOS/Brown/Bridcutt/Buckley/Roberge are either too old or not good enough to continue in the EPL Mavrias/Ba are young'uns that imo havent really been given a fair crack of the whip which will surely be gotten rid of as well So there are 7 players instantly who need replacing... You say Johnson, Catts, Fletch from your point of view are possibly some of the troublemakers, its a well known that they are massive drinkers however they are also 3 of our most technically gifted players unfortunately! Plus as Funk says, Catts gives 100% commitment every game, him and Seb's work rate is unbelievable, if we just had a creative midfielder in between those 2 we could actually have a half decent midfield!
Do you know? I know we've got problems with some players somewhere. But who's to say we haven't already addressed most of the core problem? Is it the players fault this season? Is it ****! We've just played 4/5ths of a season playing tippy tappy ****e in our own half. Despite an idiot seeing they weren't good enough, Poyet stuck with it. This season was Poyets fault, his managerial incapability of being able to asses his own squad and adapt put us in touching distance of going down. Not poisonous players who can't be arsed. The only person who's looked disinterested has been Fletch and he suffered a lack of playing time as a result. Our squad maybe limited but that doesn't make them vermin. Almost every player in the squad was committed last season. Being **** does not make them vermin. Being forced to play a style beyond their capabilities does not make them vermin. It just makes them **** and with a bit of investment and a man in charge who can build we'll be fine.
That's not true though. Southampton away he gave nothing. Cattermole's treatment by SAFC fans reminds me exactly of how West Ham fans used to cream over Scott Parker, in the end, the kid ran round in circles with the ball and wasn't satisfied until he left the pitch with mud on his shirt. He might try hard, even 90% of the time he might give his all but somebody like Nzonzi or McCarthy could give 60% effort and be more effective on the pitch. Effort isn't talent, never will be. The reason I bring him up is his past, his behaviour off the pitch isn't squeaky clean.
In fairness mate thats not fair, not one of them gave anything during that game Cattermole gives 100% and id say in the majority of matches he plays our midfield actually has some bite and cant just be wandered through He hurrys and harasses players and as a defensive midfielder is superb
To a point I agree mate, Poyet did play horrendously defensive tactics, however the same core of players has been there since the Bruce era... and look how many managers we have went through Although Managers have to take the blame, the players are not completely innocent in all of it
This is my thinking exactly. I honestly don't believe we're a million miles away from mid table security (mediocrity for some) with the likes of West Ham etc. If we can appoint the right man - and have 3 or 4 quality signings, (as well as some squad fillers), and play the football our players are capable of playing, I think we'll be fine next season.
