But we overspent on Rodgers's targets i.e. Lallana and Lovren. They were the managers number 1 picks. We often criticise the owners for not backing the manager but we certainly did in this case.

The issue isn't what we spent - it's the fact that they were the targets in the first place. If you overspend on a player and he delivers, then it's not a waste of money i.e. paying 75m for suarez is eye watering but he has led them to the title and a potential treble - in which case, money well spent.

There was an interview done by John Henry a couple of seasons back and well before Gordon was officially appointed and part of it went along the lines of "we have our own expert on soccer advising us on just what we need to know and do to make Liverpool Football Club successful"

It was obviously him and if it was he's hardly done a good job has he, maybe he should sack himself.<whistle>

you know know what the outcome will be just like rodgers can't know for sure.

the fact is mr rodgers said please sack me and pay me off last sunday.... can't deny that. nothing is happening til the 3rd. rodgers gets a business class ticket on the way over. do you know what class ticket they have for the return or something?

I submit that Our very own RHC told us rodgers is safe and this **** about a new DoF all comes from press articles not actual knowledge.

Nope he actually said "I'll go if the owners want me to", have you saw or read anything from FSG that says they want him to remain?
Saying what he did covers all bases for FSG, he made the quote just after the Stoke debacle so they were hardly likely to ring him in the aftermath of our biggest defeat in 50yrs and tell him he jobs safe.
So it all hinges on the " review" at the meeting.

if a team of scouts made recommdations to a committee of 6 I'm not really sure how one person can be scapegoated for mistakes

    Very logical point.

I can see a scenario where Ayre in control of finance, possibly Gordon too, would say 'no, the figures don't add up on player x, we're going with player y' - and Rodgers first pick is out in favour of the second best but there's other reasons we just can't guess at why the players we end up with have been chosen. I said yesterday I think calling it a committee is what's making it a laughing stock. Surely every club has a similar approach to identifying then landing their targets they just don't band all the factions together and call it 'the transfer committee'.

  12. I think we should obviously have a man with better footballing knowledge in charge but my biggest moan here is that, bar a name, we don't know who he is. Fair enough if he likes to stay out the limelight but that also means he hides from criticism. You can't have such a high powered public job that effects millions of people and ****ing hide <doh>

Agreed....when they say most knowledgeable am pretty confident that they mean about how it is financed.

Mike Gordon loves us, he wants us to succeed. We should be eternally grateful to him and to FSG.

So this guy is the guy who could make the disastrous decision to keep Rodgers.

But on the up side, he avoided the disastrous decision to get Martinez.
