Yeh, missed that. I can understand his reasons why. Just 4-6 international games a year, most of the time spent at home, or 38 - 50 club games in England. At his age, with his wife settled back home, you can't blame the guy. Personally, I'm gutted. I just hope that Ellis learns from this. 5 Seasons, 5 Saviours. I've lost track. It just seems like every season we bring someone in to save us. It's just not the way to run a multi- million pound business! ELLIS!! Learn from this! Experience beats enthusiasm, arrogance and downright bluster everytime! You need another Advocaat, Ferguson, Wenger..... someone who's been there, done that, and won't be fazed by downturns, good runs, but can see the longer, bigger picture. Someone who will guarantee your investment and even maybe recoup a return....
This. I think it`s highly unlikely that Congerton will not have other considerations/options. He will have other contacts. Probably completely off our radar. After the appointment of DA, Short would be wise to take notice of his advice. The board might be well advised to listen to his input. Up to now the advice (wherever it has come from) has been crap. I`ve an idea we might be pleasantly surprised.
The key word is "experiment " DD. we've been down this road a few times with the likes of Wilkinson/Cotterell, PDC and Gus Poyet as examples of why it all ended in tears. So you're right that Clement would be a massive gamble. The short but successful Big Dick tenure has given us a glimpse of what things could be like with a proven, experienced and savy manager. Ellis has simply got to get it right this time or I fear the black cats will be using their 9th life next season.
I nominate Lucien Favre of Monchengladbach, from bottom of Bundeslige in 2011 to ECL twice. And lost his top player to Dortmund.
While I'd love to see a really big name come in and sweep us all off our feet, I don't see it happening sadly. I could live with big Sam. We need stability and I can see him providing it.
as disappointed as I am Dick has gone, it also provides the opportunity for some much needed long term stability. If Dick had stayed on a year or two, there would always be questions about whose next..not the healthiest of situations. Now he has gone, we should learn from the fact that this club NEEDS an experienced manager, one who knows the premier league and one with great connections. Either Moyes or Sam would be good for the club, I just hope we don't go for another "punt" with an unknown...it just doesn't work for us.
Amazed to see how many people want 'no trophy' Moyes and how few want McClaren who tends to do a good job wherever he goes. Neither would be my first choice in your shoes but Moyes would be almost last on the list for me.
Well sorry typical juan but give me Moyes over boring McLaren any day a few years ago Pulliss Allardyce Hughes I didn't want any of them but oh for a bit of stability lets get there first and then think of the next step whoever it is gets my backing as have all the rest although Mcenemy was a bit too much
Someone like Thorsten Fink maybe? I've listed some potential contacts like this but I don't anything about about this bloke as a coach. Eric Gerets is another I know nothing about.
Roberto Di Matteo shouldn't be considered by any premier league club, he's a ****ing failure. That Schalke team is very decent and he's had them looking bang average, losing a whole load of games at the end of the season to boot. The guy has a CL winners medal on his managerial CV that he might as well hand over to Lampard, Terry and Drogba to share between them, he's nothing but a fraud if he thinks for one second he earned that medal himself.
its all about expectations Juan. At Sunderland if we had a guy who could do what he did at Everton in as much keep them in the top half of the league, bring through the youth talent and have the odd cup run, I would imagine most fans would take your hand off. However, at Man U its very different, you HAVE to win the league, minimum to qualify for the Champions League and simply must put some silverware in the cupboard...Moyes would be a perfect fit for the expectations of SAFC...alas not for MUFC
