I don't think the decision has anything to do with Steve Bruce. Rosenior's wages are off the books, offering him a new contract would be like signing a new player. At the minute we don't know who we will be left with in August and how much the wage bill will be. I'd be very surprised if any of the out of contract players will be offered new contracts until we have shifted some of our contracted players.

I disagree, thats pretty healthy for a team who were odds on to go down. Last season by the end of June we'd only sold 11,500 after our best season ever.

OLM "With two days to go to secure your regular seat, we've so far sold 11,600 season tickets.

Following our best ever season, that's incredible."

Think I will let Steve Bruce manage how he wants.
Maybe he has someone lined up to take his place,
I would have kept him myself but Bruce knows more about managing then me .

I don't really know what to make of this, I still think our big downfall last year was a lack of full backs, to revert to 442 against the poorer teams. Then we release out only real recognized full back, well decent one.

So now we have centre half wise Chester, Bruce, McShane, Dawson, Davies and Maguire. Robertson and Figueroa to who can play full back oh and Elmo.

Rosenior and Elmo where fantastic down the right, I am gutted. Does anyone think its the fact we simply cannot afford these wages on the contracts running out, we'll see if Bruce gets a new contract I guess.

Obviously there is no way of knowing if anyone will come in for Brady, Robertson or Elmo, so letting a player who can play LB, RB, RWB & LWB go is just ridiculous.

The guy always give 100% and loves the club. We need players with heart more than ever. Stupid decision.

Bizarre that he was to be offered a new 2 year deal, but it was taken away due to relegation. I'd see that as more of a reason to get him snapped up.

If Quinn goes too, like many others, I'll be annoyed and baffled.

on what terms did he want though ? ... 2 sides to every coin so to speak ...

This smells of agent telling him at 30 he can get a great deal at another club eg Norwich ... or abroad .. and its time for him to cash it in where he can when he can and enjoy the fruits of a great career ... wish him well wherever he goes

You don't think a further 2,100 drop, a month earlier, is a concern?

Also, when I posted that, I didn't know there were another 3,000 corporate members to be added to that total. I don't know that now either, though I doubt the corporate members have dropped much, they may be quiet, but they ate fairly loyal.

What is sad is that the release makes no sense from what we know about the players we have and it certainly would merit a minimum one year extension to be reviewed at Xmas. Whatever is decided about the eventual players, we still need a workable squad and there was room in that for Rosie, who is a RB specialist and a very adequate LB and RWB - who else fits the bill at his money? Bruce found himself having to resort to the promotion players so I think there is a clue in that. What will be interesting is who broke the news, does anyone know?

According to the information we have so far, he wasn't offered a new deal, so it has absolutely nothing to do with getting a better offer elsewhere, we simply released him.

I doubt it - he wanted to retire here and go into coaching here. The article states he'd already started work with the academy.

If you think you have a long - term goal at a club you like, why move for a short - term fix?

he was in talks over a 2 yr deal until we got into trouble ... what terms do you think they were on ?

I know what you mean and Dazzar about wanting to coach etc .. but everything was withdrawn when we got into the **** ,.. so that to me says a lot about what deal he was dealing with or rather what deal his agent was dealing with

We have something like £40 million to cut from our expenditure. The first to go will be those out of contract for the obvious reason that offering them a contract would increase the wage bill. I hope that those that wanted to stay, including Rosenior, were given plenty of warning and help in finding other clubs. The second tranche to go will be those players with a resale value. The better the player the bigger the transfer fee. I suspect that will be the criteria used when considering offers. At the end of all that we will be left with those who don't want to move and nobody wants. With a bit of luck we'll get to keep some decent players who want to play for us.

When Bruce talks about a young squad he means a cheap, in wages terms, team.

We'll have a better idea of what our team looks like come August. Until then I'm sure we'll lose a lot more players we'd all like to keep. The price of failure is high.

Or we could increase the debt and go for the jackpot £100 mill pa revenue stream, interesting times.

The Livermore situation does help we could recouped 4-5 mill I think.

Anyway it shouldn't be too hard to sell some of our players with some of the money floating around the Premier League. The worst thing we can do is sell on the cheap, look at Norwich they kept the majority of players and added a few decent Championship players and came back up.

If its a financial issue then are we to assume that a player who isn't nailed on first choice is one we can't afford to have? Will we just have about 14 players next season then? If money is tight its players like him we need more than ever. It makes **** all sense whichever way you look at it. He's one of the best fullbacks at this level, he's already here and it'll cost us more to replace him. If we don't replace him then we must be planning on carrying a very thin squad and we're in for a long season.

I just can't get my head round making any unnecessary changes to our defence at this stage. We should be entirely focused on sorting out the attacking side and maintaining the excellent defence we already have. Why the hell would you want to start messing with the team's strong areas after a relegation.

It's clear the club will have to make some drastic cuts including some enforced ones. Rosenior is probably just the start of a clusterfxxk summer. Roll on Aug the 8th.
