Good ride by Cosgrave on Fiftyshadesofgrey at Goodwood. The two front runners did not go off as quickly as I expected so he had to weave his way through in the final furlong and did not win by too much. The horse might be worth following if they can keep placing him in this type of race as he is not in the handicapper’s grip yet. I cannot believe that I put my bet on as they were loading the stalls (5/2) and then it went out (11/4). At least I beat the morning odds (9/4) as they seem to have been rubbish so far this flat season.
Why did they ride Gavlar so far off the pace again only to have him need make lengths on everything at the business end and it prove too big an ask again? I have always felt some trainers could do with employing proven race readers as not all trainers are as astute at that aspect of the game.
Nice of those bookmaker chaps to save me some money on a rare poor ride by Ryan Moore. When the betting opened, there was no way that I was going to do Darshini at 3/1 or shorter (had been 9/2 in most of the early prices). There must have been word for it at the course to clip the price by a third. He let the other favourite Resonant have too much of a start and could not catch it in the last furlong. Smart ride by Franny Norton, this could be another one of those Johnston ones that will run up five or six wins before the handicapper catches up.
I have just had a small each way on Lady of Dubai in the Oaks at 40-1 in the hope she can look impressive here. Not a sum you would mind losing but a bit of interest at a big price.
Well done on getting the 40/1. That was as visually impressive as any of the other Oaks trials by Lady Of Dubai. I am sure they will let her take her chance. Clearly she is as good as her two-year-old performances suggested. The betting told the story with Jellicle Ball. She did not settle early in the race and Dettori stuck to the rail waiting for it to open up, by which time the first two had long gone.
Yes I've been to Langland Bay, long time ago. My wife's aunty lived in Swansea. We stayed there once when we showed afghan hounds at Cardiff. Took a train and taxi to the show which was quite humorous. Determined to go in the sea we took the dogs to Langland Bay. Black clouds down to the cliffs and tipping down with rain. It was warmer in the sea . Went to a very nice restaurant in Mumbles though (Barringtons or something like that) and had a lovely meal. I remember it as though it was yesterday.
8:05 Sandown Dark Deed 11/8. Not the most exciting choice but just think this one could be way too good for anything else in the race, happy to take the 11/8 on offer 8:35 Sandown Robins Pearl 8/1 E/W. Has been running ok-ish without being spectacular, seems consistent enough. Would like to think she could at least get a place in this sort of race, although the FAV is carrying a fair bit of weight so can maybe take advantage of that.
Cheers attivo. Dark Deed was a bit of a let down in the earlier race, but Robins Pearl got me out of jail. Another couple of winners today, can't complain.
Well done Fabio. Also good stuff by QM and Bustino. Ron with a nice ****er bet too. Happy birthday Badger. Surely allowing yourself some biscuits with your tea today. Getting old now
Yes Barringtons, nice place. If you are ever this way again let me know.So much to see here.If only you had visited on a day like today. Well done to all that won today. For me tomorrow's another day!
