Removing the deadwood and the 'bad eggs' will leave us seriously short of experience in a bearpit of a league that is the Championship. We need to bring in two or three experienced Championship players simply to give us some backbone, by 'experienced' I mean players in their mid 20s that have been successful in that league or even League One and are the 'right sort', no frills good honest pros who will help the youngsters find their level. It won't be easy just to be mid-table...
Don't be too harsh on Ale Swords, if, and I reiterate if we can get him fit and keep him that way he will be a hell on an asset in the Championship.
You've as much chance of getting Matthew Rose out of retirement and keeping him fit. He's finished mate
I really hope we build a fast attacking, strong defending team that know how and when to pass the ball not to mention, score goals. So with that thought, it has to be a youngish squad ! Hill and Dunne are not gonna get any quicker so perhaps they could be used as part of a sort of defence coaching team. I just don't see the point in keeping ANY injury prone players. There's not much time before the season begins and there is a heck of a lot of work to get done but now is the time to impliment change, develope a new identity of seriousness and professionalism, on and off the pitch and for sure this attitude will go a long way to attracting younger players with ambition and talent.
This is one of those occasions where I agree with Swords: regrettably, I can't see Ale Faurlin recovering from his third ACL injury and becoming a key member of our squad again. We've paid him a lot of wages over recent years and not got much back in terms of appearances. It's not his fault but it's a cruel game and I don't think we can be sentimental and offer him a new contract.
