I'm not sure how I feel about Jamie Vardy being in there. Pleased for Tom Heaton though, guess it's happy hour at his place...
Was just about to complain about the inclusion of Vardy and Heaton, then realised that a quarter of the Senior squad are playing for the U21's this summer, and we literally have no one else who is English of any quality, hence their inclusion! (Next up on the strikers list would probably be Bobby Zamora ffs!)
In defence of Hodgson, he's in a no win situation. Austin & Vardy are only in the full squad because Kane, Berahino & Ings are in the U21 squad playing in the European Championships. If he put 2 of those 3 into the full squad he'd be vilified for not taking the U21 tournament seriously.
Hodgson said the U21s would have priority this summer. He presumably wants big players to get used to playing jn tournaments. Ings, like Kane, probably would have been picked if he was available. I don't think Vardys that bad at all. He's better than most of our strikers but he seems to be considered **** just because he plays for Leicester and used to play in non-league. He's shown in the last few weeks that he's a handful at this level.
What about Zaha, leaving Walcott to play as a forward, or Lambert or Crouch who have been there and done it for England whenever they've been called on despite their club form. I don't see the point in a token call up, Vardy is just fast and direct and technically ****. He'll never fit into the England team.
Of course not he isn't a striker, Vardy is. Who would you put in ahead of him based on Ings, Berahino and Kane being unavailable?
