As directed by the moderators I will not respond to any of your comments (except this one). Perhaps you should do the same

I believe this is nothing more than a provocative post to get a reaction and that is what you are trying to do, why would anyone post this on a Bristol City board about Bristol Rovers, plus its factually incorrect.

Apart from the fact the game was dire and very poor technically, the place was practically empty and the atmosphere came across as very poor on the television, (of course Lared being there would have a different perspective) awful game, awful support! this was the biggest game potentially the Gas may have ever played, Higgs openly admitted that they had thrown the kitchen sink at promotion and they would have been in dire financial trouble had they lost.. the 'loyal and true' managed to scrape up 27k to support such a game .. glad I'm not gas.

Mods, this man is nothing more than a disguised (poorly) gashead, please remove him from our board..

    C'mon girls - don't take the bait.

I applaud the Gas for achieving what they set out to do. It's good for The City of Bristol.

Gents. You're not actually rowing amongst yourselves over us are you? Priceless! <laugh>

Anyhow, it was a great day out, a terrible game but a fine result. Thanks to all those Reds who congratulated us and let's hope that the egg chasers achieve promotion so that our fine city gets an unprecedented triple promotion!

    <cheers>

My problem is that all my life has been about delivering change. I understand that change is necessary, evolutionary, inevitable and unstoppable. Let me give you examples. Who would have thought 20 years ago that we would communicate through such things as Facebook and Twitter and that phenomena would reduce crime worldwide by between 15 and 20%. Who would have thought 20 years ago that kids would now find drink driving socially unacceptable? Change has also happened in sport. Twenty years ago in cricket it was all about Test cricket. Now it’s all about Big Bash T20, 50 overs and team names have changed without a mummer viz Gloucester Gladiators, Somerset Sabres and lately even Birmingham. This has happened because of one thing. The money has required the change. So what’s happened in Football? The Premiership has emerged as a brand and as they have got richer the Football league has pro rata got poorer. Gradually as the rest try and catch up changes have been mooted by the owners e.g. at Hull and Cardiff. While supporter power has achieved temporary victories change is inevitable. The money men aren’t stupid they know that they must attract new younger supporters be they local or global. I know turn to Bristol where we have a man with a vision, a moderniser. Despite domiciling himself in Jersey for tax reasons he is rightly seen as a local altruistic benefactor as he has put his money where his mouth is. Within this scene there is a Rovers/City divide. This manifests in itself in a form of hatred in grown men who in one sentence show such compassion for Oskar yet in another show total disdain for anything to do with the Rovers. While the two teams are unlikely to meet in the foreseeable future this all-consuming hatred does not to me seem logical. The logic is however that Bristol Sports now calls the tune. So what has happened so far? Lansdown has lifted up Bristol Rugby and placed it in Ashton Gate without any consultation or objection. Result, crowds have increased by a third and they all exist peacefully with one another. Good business. In this thread all I have suggested is that perhaps the possibility might sometime exist (given the finances) that a Bristol United could emerge. All I know for sure is that if Bristol Sport had the chance to buy a bankrupt Rovers and gain an extra 5000 supporters a week in exchange for some temporary hostility it would do it in a flash. I have been accused of being provocative but I suggest if you read the comments from the beginning they have been totally anti Rovers and I find it a bit rich that I am seen as a trouble maker for simply putting my take on things. For the avoidance of doubt I am a football supporter who has held a City season ticket for 20 years. I go to watch the game and I would be just as happy if we lost 5-4 rather than winning a boring game 1-0. Perhaps I am just different. All I know is that my conscience is clear. So gents please feel free to argue the toss with me but don’t accuse me of being a closet gas head.

I have put a temporary ban on LARED of a month for obvious reasons, I hope this now stops all of this nonsense we have been suffering from.

I hate this sort of action but needs must..

I feel a bit uncomfortable with this as I’m not too sure what Lared has done wrong to warrant a ban. I haven’t read much of his stuff recently because the handbags between him and Banksy were boring me and I probably disagree with basically everything the miserable git says. However this is an open forum and whereas his views may differ from everyone else’s on here he has a right to say them in my opinion. That’s what forums are for after all. I don’t believe he is a City fan (I also don’t believe he is SAG either) but just someone who goes to a regular football game just to moan about everything he sees. Also if I’m being totally honest I think some of the abuse he has gotten on here has been way out of order. Now if I’ve missed something over the weekend and he’s crossed the line then fair enough, ban him, but if the ban is purely because his opinions differ from everyone else’s (and lets face it one persons in particular) then I don’t think that’s right.

LARED is someone who I believe is a City fan. I don't think he's 'miserable git', more like he's of a certain age that sees things differently.
He goes on a bit but hey, don't we all.
Banksy is a Jack Russell from another life and won't let it go.
If you ban one temporarily it's hard to see why you don't ban both.
Unless, as Loathsneyd says, 'if I’ve missed something'.

Wiz, and to all Mods, I'll bet you love all this.

Please pardon me.....but coming from a (slightly!) older generation I can
identify with much, though not all, that Lared says on your board.
His views have obviously been honed in the fire of life experiences, and
I don't believe for one moment that he is a closet gashead.
I know, none of my bluddy business, but it seems sad that the end result
of him stating his views which are not homophobic, racist, sexist etc is
    a ban.
    I'm going now...................

In my time on these boards (and the old 606), I have read many views that I have disagreed with - some have even made me quite cross on occasion (remember the LJ debate anyone?), but I would never want someone banned, simply for their views - even if I totally disagree with them.

I can't really see what LARED has done - other than wind Banksy (and a few others) up with his views.

I have nothing against either poster (Banksy in particular tried to help me out recently which I REALLY appreciate)

I think a period of cooling off is in order - they need to leave each other alone. We are (probably, mostly) adults on here and need to curb the personal attacks a bit - it has got beyond the 'banter' limits. (The gasheads will be loving this!)

Mods - your decision is final - and I don't envy you making it!
