To be relegated and then have another record busting campaign and storm back ...or to survive and finish 1615th next year quoting this as progress?

I just remember the optimism of that promotion season when the lads smashed the record and we had our highest finish in the premiership the season afterwards

Not even a debate mate, any side going down this season is £115million behind the 20th Premier League team.

We go down, we are ****ed. In every orifice.

To prefer relegation just to see us win a few games is pathetic. I don't ever want to see Sunderland relegated ever again. Ever.

With everything the way it is with money etc if clubs do ,t immediately bounce back they look stuffed, big risk to go down to win a few

Agreed. And bouncing straight back isn't easy to do. Newcastle did it, and Norwich might this year. But that's a very hard league and I wouldn't count on it. Two of the clubs heading for relegation to the third tier this year - Wigan and Blackpool - were talking about bouncing straight back just a couple of years ago. Teams like Reading, Bolton and Fulham who all thought they could do it aren't too far ahead of Wigan and Blackpool either. No way is this worth the risk, no way.

I'ld prefer the club to change to a policy like Bilboa and focus on bringing through homegrown players. The money in the game has stopped us competing for trophies and at least that would give us some identity instead of constantly cycling through 2nd or 3rd rate imported players.

To the O/P if it was guarenteed a 100 point promotion season >>>> a 42 point survival.
