Talk about over hyping an average story by the UK press and TV anyone would think the wonderful Stevieme had won every possible honour in the game. Truth is he was just an over average player playing in a very average, and sometimes woeful Liverpool side, who under achieved in every season he played for them.

Yet the press have been harping on for the last month on how wonderful he is, and the tripe written about him is enough to make you weep. Can we really put him on the same pedestal as Giggs?

Add to that Scholes, Keano, Cantona, Beckham Neville and Butt.

Does he deserve to be showered with the same praise as Lampard or Terry?

Was he better in the premiership than Shearer,Adams, Bergkamp or Henri?

Gerrard was just an over average player who happened to shine slightly brighter than the rest of him team mates who were as best described as average.. All this hype about being a superstar is utter tripe

Decent trophy haul for an average player in a team that under-achieved.

Last home game for Liverpool as captain, and lost 1-3 to Palace. Whoever writes Gerrad's scripts deserves the booker prize for literature

Gerrard is a great player. legend for Liverpol and a premier league legend but had enough of all the media milking him as if he's the only legend leaving the league. The media and everyone never milked or even made Giggsy's retirement front page or any attention when out of all one club mans, Ryan Giggs is the best and deserved for credit than he got. Even Lampard didn't get milked like this.

Gerrard a great player but everyone is milking it too much.

He was only given such a over the top send off by the sycophantic media because he has been playing for a pile of rubbish <laugh> had he been playing for a decent side then there would have been none of the 'carrying the whole club on his shoulders' nonsense.

What is so comical is that Stevie himself wanted to have another season at his club. They ****ing need him as his prolonged absence affected the team. But Brenda decided not to renew his contract. Now they pretend he is the bees knees. They cry as if he will be so missed. Yet they are apparently prepared to recruit an older foreigner Pirlo who has never played in the premiership to replace him. Talk about hilarious hypocrisy about a better than average player.

    #crocodiletears for Stevie Me.

Just listened to that obnoxious pro pool commentator Alan Greene claiming two of Palace's goals shoud have been disallowed. If that creep had his way, both Palace and Villa would be burned at the stake for ruining Stevie me's season.

Get over it Greene,, and accept that Liverpool are just an average team, with or without the wonderful Stevieme

If he was that good, he would have won more. In big games, he bottled it, especially playing for England. Why on earth we had to endure a week of hype for a player who was leaving his club was beyond me. Did the media make such a fuss over Scholes, Giggs or Lampard? OF COURSE NOT

That's cos none of them went the same way as Stevie Look At Me and announced they were leaving in January. The other three all waited until after the season was finished before they retired, or were forced out in the case of Lampard.

Tbh I don't think Liverpool should be thanking him for that either. His announcement has turned their season into a sideshow, with the FA Cup final on his birthday, and all the fuss over his last games against Utd and at Anfield. No real surprise that their season has turned out to be such a failure after all the focus was on him.

The game on Saturday just proved it - Liverpool needing to win to keep pressure on us for the CL, but the entire stadium was focused on the pre match Gerrard bumlove fest, atmosphere for the match itself was flat at a pancake, and Liverpool got utterly battered. I'm just surprised Gerrard didn't manage to get himself sent off in the process.

I am genuinely interested to see how the media will continue their usual lovefest with liverpool next season. Unless they buy a worldie there's nobody left at the club for them to wax lyrical about.

Gerrard was a lightning rod for liverpool. His sideshow has always been a distraction from liverpool's underachievement. Without him, I expect a lot more pressure on Rodgers and players. For starters, the likes of Sterling will continually be referenced against Gerrard and put under a spotlight they cant live up to.

I have to say I was surprised and I agree that this was all overhyped by the media, yes the club were always going to give him a big send off but I found the whole media circus crazy. I also understand the comparisons and arguments over who was better, that's down individual opinion.

The only bit I don't get which is popping up all over is the bottling it in big games it just shows a lack of knowledge he has scored in League, FA Cup, Europa and Champions League finals, He's also scored against Everton and Man Utd on a number of occasions. He's very much a big game player maybe the best big game player (argue that one).
