Maggie. Big Arnie tries his hand at some serious acting and......does alright I suppose. He's better than the Zombies, put it that way. Interesting slant on the zombie apocalypse this movie. In this everything takes an age. Eight weeks to full blown zombification. Arnie's daughter is infected and he seeks her out and takes her home for her final few days. Very little in the way of action and the script leaves a lot to be desired. Kudos to the director for trying something different. Same can be said for Arnie. 6/10 Run all night. Liam Neeson shooting everybody in sight trying to save his child. Nothing new there then eh. Actually, it's not that bad. The way it's been shot is quite novel. Liam excells at playing an aging Irishman. Some good chase scenes. Mostly pretty silly though. 6.5/10 It follows. Very good horror flick that harks back to the slasher movies of the 80s. You know the ones, when anybody sowing their wild oats were invariably chopped up quite early in the movie. This film however has little blood and gore. It does have bucket loads of threat. There is something coming to get them and it's coming at walking pace. You honestly find yourself watching the periphery of the shot to see what's coming. Best horror I've seen in a long time 8/10
I really enjoyed It mate. Not the fright fest it was billed as on its release but very good none the less.
Transformers whatever: The one with Mark Wahlberg and Kelsey Grammer. Diabolically bad, I don't mind suspending disbelief but this is a turkey on the level of Double Team , absolute codswallop. Turned it off after 40 minutes.
No, this is staggeringly unbelievable, I was rubbing my eyes in disbelief and I found myself saying out loud "aw get tae ****".
Ex Machina Very good sci fi flick. A programmer wins a competition to visit his bosses estate in the mountains. When he gets there he discovers he is to test a robot to see if it really has artificial intelligence. Great story with plenty of twists and turns. Great performances by all involved Excellent CGI too 8/10 McFarland USA True story of high school coach who finds himself in a tiny Californian high school. He starts a cross country team with his Hispanic kids and leads them to victory agsinst all the odds. Sickly sweet Disney movie starring Kevin Costner. It's a bit like Tin cup with trainers on. I really cannot understand why enjoyed it as much as I did. Mibbe I'm getting soft in my old age. One for all the family. 7/10
Beyond Tomorrow Land I think. Cant be bothered to check the title. It plods along but no real depth or purpose to the film except the predictably weak attempt at trying to get us to see how we're destroying our planet. I'm usually swayed by Clooney as more often than not his films offer the viewer something to think about. Unfortunately in this case it was "not" :-(
Ex-Machina: Watchable but the plot is silly and the main programmer guy is a dick. Boyhood: 2h45mins of my life i'll never get back...
The History Boys. Recorded it the other night and finally got to see it. Quality British film but probably not for everyone, a bit of nostalgia certainly helps 8/10.
Mad Max: Fury Road - epic film (that's epic in the traditional sense) 10/10 A masterpiece and I don't say that lightly. Miller resurrects his Mad Max series brilliantly. It's just a beautifully crafted film, I cannot recommend it highly enough but advise going to watch it at the cinema to do it justice. I've not wanted to see a film again in a long time, but I would pay good money to see this again...in fact fck it I'm off now! EDIT: Another reason I like this film is that although he's clearly benefited from 30 years in the technological advances in film-making..... (from IMDB) over 80% of the effects seen in the film are real practical effects, stunts, make-up and sets. CGI was used sparingly mainly to enhance the Namibian landscape, remove stunt rigging and for Charlize Theron's left hand which in the film is a prosthetic arm.
