Paul Scholes: Tony Fernandes needs to show his ruthless side to revive QPR please log in to view this image 1 / 1 QPR chairman Tony Fernandes looks on from the stands As part of his exclusive column for The Independent, Scholes looks at the recently relegated QPR Paul Scholes please log in to view this image The only saving grace of Queen’s Park Rangers’ relegation is that the club now find themselves in a position to clear out a squad which, in part, has been relegated twice from the Premier League. But it is one very small consolation amid a whole load of problems for the club. I heard Harry Redknapp talking about the squad this week and he said that nine of the players relegated this season also went down two seasons previously. It does beg the question why the club thought that they would be good enough this time if they were not the first time around. They have 10 first-team players out of contract on 30 June and they have no choice but to start afresh. The chairman, Tony Fernandes, seems like a nice man but he needs to be ruthless now. He and Les Ferdinand have decided that bringing in young players is the way forward. I agree, but that takes time. They will need some good, experienced professionals to help them along that rebuilding process too. It was a difficult situation for the manager, Chris Ramsey, to come into and he has not been able to turn around the squad. I don’t think he is an obvious choice to carry on in charge of the team. When a team is relegated, a new leader can help turn the page at a club. QPR need that fresh start.
Totally agree with all that Scholes says here. It will be just nice to see an almost complete new team next season. Chance to start fresh. I'm predicting we up again in the third season! Yoooo Rrrrrs
Very interesting that he states a new Manager is needed to help start the new chapter. Although that's in our best interests, I expect the club will name Ramsey the Full Time Manager next week. I'm prepared to give him a chance, but I can't help but think our fans will turn on him quickly should we lose a couple on the bounce.
I agree entirely with Scholes. Out with the old and in with the new, beginning with a fresh Manager with a proven track record.
More likely they will turn on him when the replacement players arrive over the summer. Few of them will be considered a good buy, whilst we know from experience that 95% of those considered by the fans to be good business will turn out to be duds.
Careful what you wish for. If Tony reads your post he might just get someone with a really great track record ...... please log in to view this image
No mention of current FFP litigation which could have huge ramifications for our future. I have doubts about Ramsey too, but what proven manager of worth would come when there are these off-pitch uncertainties
Interesting that he heard what Redknapp said about the numbers in the squad who were at the club when we were relegated 2 seasons ago yet nobody questions why Redknapp thought they would be good enough 2nd time around.......teflon.....
Tony Fernandes needs to show his ruthless side to revive QPR No more Mr nice guy... please log in to view this image Tony says " If anyone lets me down I will shove this where the sun don't shine" Expect a load of unusual injury's next season in the QPR squad then...
I detest the idea that relegation means a player automatically isn't good enough. Stick Messi in a Blue Square team and play them in the Premier League, they'd get relegated. So that means Messi's **** then. It's the extreme example but the idea that the best player in a bad team is awful just because he can't single handedly revive the whole team's fortunes is just lazy generalisation.
