So does the number matter or not? Or is it only fine for Everton because you've never had a good number 8? #sahabrokethenumber

What the **** are you prattling on about?

What has our current No.8 got to do with a discussion about who takes over Gerrard's shirt at Anfield ffs?

I'm pretty sure whoever wears the number 8 would still have their own name on the back not Gerrard's <ok>

Numbers previously wore by these people are they retired?
    Dalglish
    Lawrenson
    Keegen
    Alonso
    Fowler
    Owen

    Hansen
    Carragher
All these are famous Liverpool players, though not all are captains.
    # I rest my case !

I hear number 29 is to be retired after not being used for the last three seasons

There are only four great players on that list and Owen is not one of them<ok>

It's the most common out of those numbers but still isn't at the level of numbers like 7 to 11

  11. Interested to know who you think the four are

I agree. Although there are lots of British players with high numbers, I think it's more a penchant of foreign players.

It isn't only numbers that players are superstitious about either. Look at the entrance rituals of some of them. Sturridge always enters the pitch backwards for instance, some hop, some bless themselves etc. and there's those who like to come out last [Reina]. Jackie Charlton famously gave up the captaincy because he liked coming out last!

Thought I had seen Rush on the list...

But add in Hanson and Carragher.

  16. You've already said Owen's not (understandable although debatable) and I can understand you not agreeing with Alonso being a great since he was only at Liverpool for a short time so fair enough.

However, you don't think Lawrenson or Fowler are greats? Lawrenson and Hansen are one of the best CB partnership the club as had. Fowler is the sixth all time goalscorer for the club with possibly the best game to game ratio too.

That is the good thing about opinions<ok>

Hanson for me was a Rolls-Royce of a defender, Lawro played at FB and MF at times and was not as good in my opinion<ok>
