A decade, not just four years, of papering over the cracks My first blog in ages. Mercifully for you, I rarely have the time. Down but probably not out I’ve never been one for doomsday scenarios when it comes to QPR. By that I mean that over the course of the 16 years I’ve covered the club, I’ve encountered people at various stages who would have you believe the end is nigh. There have been difficult times during those years, but the extent of Rangers’ financial plight – or at least its impact on the playing side – was massively overstated bar a spell in 2006 when the Monaco-based investors stopped funding the club. More recently, just as there was the last time Rangers went down, there has been plenty of speculation about the possible financial implications of relegation. My view has always been that QPR are much more likely to face spiritual ruin, through what will evolve into an extremely aggressive rebranding, rather than financial ruin under the current owners, who have access to a truly staggering supply of money. But no amount of money is infinite, so a meltdown of some kind cannot be ruled out completely while the fecklessness and shambolic decision-making continues. And at the turn of this year, I felt that if the wheels were to start coming off at QPR, 2015 might be the year. read the rest here put the kettle on swords https://davidmcintyre.wordpress.com...-just-four-years-of-papering-over-the-cracks/
Wow that is some write up......when you see it in black and white it does bring home the terrible state the club is in. This will take several years to correct, seems to me that the message is "have patience".......who's in for the long haul?
A very very long blog which is quite rightly heavy on recrimination but light on solutions. What does David Mac offer as a roadmap for exiting this nightmare world we have found ourselves in? He seems to be saying that we should just strap ourselves in, wait for the crash and hope for the best.
In fairness it's not his job to come up with solutions. He is a reporter and he is reporting what he sees.
Funny as I said as much the same just yesterday. Tony needs to step aside and Let Ruben Gangnamstyle or even the Mittals (Fat Chance of it happening) call the shots for a while. Tony wanted to be high profile, he's only got himself to blame for ruining that same profile.
All the positive people should read that. It is painful to read but sometimes, the truth really does hurt.
The most interesting/worrying point was that we have an academy at grade two, which could be demoted to grade three. This is supposed to be from where we are building, but in reality we could be on a par with Southend and Orient. A very interesting insight, but a heavy bump down to Earth. Should we be hoping to do slightly better than Foolham has done this season? If that is the case I am going to drink even more than I have done this season.
A pessimist is a person who complains that the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, An optimist is a person who thinks the wind will change direction, A realist is a person who changes sail.
'We want our Rangers back'! I'm in for the long haul. Let's hope Ruben & Co are too. How do we get Ruben's name into a song?!!
Interesting and depressing read. Maybe Les is the man to remind everyone what our history is all about. Clearly, that has been sadly missing and a main reason why most of our stellar signings have been spectacular flops.
Is anyone else surprised at the moderately respectful tone with which DM writes about Harry? Almost seems to paint Harry out as a victim of the broken system at QPR rather than the author of it. How have other read it?
Same tone some of us have for a manager not backed and not assisted correctly by the club. Yes Rio & Kranky have been ****e, But Some of his loans were great, Morrsion helped us up, Andros Townsend was a like Jamie Mackie with skill. I maintain that if the club has a **** structure then Wheeling and dealing is all you have, hence why Harry suited us. It's not Harrys fault our youth isn't good enough. It's also not his fault he didn't get a budget for the summer just a "tell me want you want and we'll have a look at them" kind of backing. Teflon Tony is losing that coating. About time. Who scouted, approached and signed Yun? Tony? Interference in team matters? Never Uncle Tony !
Whilst Harry is culpable, there is clearly something that is deep-seated and wrong at the club that has led for such tumultuous times at the club. I don't profess to know what it is, but I really hope that it gets solved soon. For me it really show's what an achievement NW's time at the club was, as we were already sliding backwards again when he took over. Perhaps this NW 'blip' provides rose tinted glasses and people forget that we were all over the place prior to his arrival.
