The 28-year-old striker is out of contract after his deal with Cardiff expired at the end of the season. Skysports.com reported earlier on Monday that the R's were hopeful of sealing a deal to sign Bothroyd - and Blackpool striker DJ Campbell. And the attempt to sign Bothroyd is thought to have moved a step closer with the England international having had a medical with the Premier League new-boys on Monday. The former Arsenal trainee was rewarded with a surprise international debut last November before he finished the campaign with 20 goals as Cardiff reached the Championship play-offs. Bothroyd has a career total of 88 goals from 354 appearances having also had spells with Coventry, Perugia, Charlton and Wolves.
Rather have Bothroyd than any of the **** purchased by those two clubs this summer..... finally some good news (if announced). Seems like our old friend @.org alberico was correct again
I'm reasonably happy with that.Although one in four ain't a proflic career rate for a striker.LoftForWords Clive Whittingham consistently opines that his sensational purple patch before Xmas - 15 goals in 16 - was a one-off freak occurence - Ageymang in 2007/8 style - and what followed, 5 goals from the next 32 games is a truer indication of his worth. He has surely indisputedly got some power and skill though & we were all surely impressed by that howitzer missile dig against us on St.George's Day & surely he's a better option than Helguson, Hulse or Pat. Skylet Andrew's his agent though innee?..wonder if the wage cap will be busted?
The guy played for England last season, I saw him in the flesh the last 3 times we played the taffs and imo he was their best player every time. A real handful.... Brings more to the team than just goals. Very happy with this news.
Very good point Northolt, the 26 year old know-it-all boy genius got that one 100% incorrect.I think he was unduly influenced by an Ipswich season ticket holding girlfriend of the time.Jon Walters was absolutely sensational last season. What do I know 'n' all? As little as the next man.Remember to my shame being unduly excited - after seeing a few YouTube showreels - at the signings of Tamas Priskin and Ben Sahar..<doh!>
This is great news. At last something to shout about, its also being banded about on Twitter that Bullard, DJ Campbell and Matthew Upson could be on their way to us this week, although looking at the odds on Upson joining Stoke I cant see that.
Actually.... I remember on the old 606 defending old boy Pelicori, thinking he would be the next great thing after scoring against Exeter or some crap in the Carling Cup back in the day....The shame....
TBH bakes he might do the business as an impact sub and we'll need him to score and finally win a cup game again!
Cheers for the vote of confidence WBA, but if the Pelican gets anywhere near our first team ever again then we really will be up ****s creek!!
