Summer's here and the time is right for an non-football related music thread like the ones that always worked so well in the not so distant past. For example ridiculously it was Not606 that first introduced me to 'Cult of Personality'. So just put up anything you're currently digging (unless it's by that class traitor Noel Gallagher...) and anything that is slightly summery Temples - Sand Dance (re animation) Psychedelic pop from Kettering remixed to make it even more psychedelic Ryley Walker - Same Minds John Martyn/Nick Drake type acoustic folk jazz with a hint of ominous danger Izzy Stradlin and The Ju Ju Hounds - Shuffle It All Post Guns N Roses Stones-esque Rock n Roll ( featuring the late great Ian McLagan) Paul Weller - Saturn's Pattern Traffic/Zombies influenced piano driven jolly off of his new album out Monday
I know this is the obvious answer, but I can't think of any Summer song better than Here Comes The Sun to be honest.
Given my current mood and circumstances: Poison - Every Rose Has It's Thorn Faster Pussycat - House of Pain Mötley Crüe - You're All I Need Def Leppard - When Love and Hate Collide Guns n' Roses - Purple Rain Counting Crows - Round Here
Cult of personality - one of my faves. Tewks was also a big fan of living color. Some cracking songs put up in the meantime. I've been struggling for new music recently - the headphones have been collecting dust. Sad times. Fan - go have one massive blow out with the boys and get it out of your system. Best thing in these situations. Well, worked for me many moons ago.
I was going to put Purple Rain on, but then last minute changed my mind. I evidently didn't edit my post Similarly, like sending an email and only realising after you hit send that you've misspelt the first word.
Thoughts on the GNR version, ponders? Annoys me that people fail to acknowledge "nothing compares 2 U" as a prince song, and talk of sinead o'connor.
Ella Fitzgerald apart from her touring restrictions is a simple must have on your iPhone thing. Or If you want to jack it up try Frankie Knuckles
Is this a summer music thread. Three by the Stranglers for me. Golden Brown Always the Sun Peaches ..plus I suppose that thing by Mungo Jerry, but it does'nt actually conjure summer so much as bad hair to me!
There's a couple of Charlton fans I know whom are massive Stranglers fans. They're not my cup of tea.
Don't know what you're going through CAFCFan but You Could Be Mine, whilst the title may not be apt, is the best GNR '**** you' kind of song. You'll like the Izzy Stradlin one at the top if you like GNR!
GNR's version of which song, SuperC? I like to think I'm an expert on GNR, but I don't recall them covering Purple Rain. Could be cool, though. My summer playlist usually includes the Doors, the Beach Boys and Elgar, plus a little bit of Bob Marley and Eddy Grant. Only two weeks till Fleetwood Mac at the O2. The Mac rule. Fact.
The usual break up. Things that ended before they should have. Why this half season at the Valley will be my last for some time. Heading off to work abroad for a couple of years. Could do with a break from London and the UK, ready to embrace a new challenge in life. Had a listen to the Izzy Stradlin song. Epic.
I still listen to early U2.... when I have time during the summer.... I have talksport on in the car so no music... on U2 anything after 'Live at Red Rocks' is commercial pap but I do listen to.. Live at Red Rocks War October and some bits of 'Boy' in that order
I am a bit of a folkie at heart and I will be off to the Cambridge Folk Festival this year. Don't be put off by the title it features indigenous music from all over the World. Toots and the Maytells were there the other year. The music I am listening to at the moment is The Moulettes, Richard Thompson, Bellowhead and Rodrigo Y Gabriella.
Then you will like FHBs band Dick, Paper Fish! As for CAFCFan sounds like a good opportunity to me, good luck. Hope you still find the time to visit Not606!
There's not many of us about, Dickp. Pentangle were my favourite band, and Richard Thomson is one of the greatest living songwriters. I was at a terrific concert by Aly Bail and Phil Cunningham week before last. Don't miss them if you get the chance, the banter alone is worth the admission money.
Paper Fish are still going, Kish, but without me. I had to leave when I moved to Orpington. I heard them at an open-mike on Sunday and although I hate to admit it they are better now than when I was in them. They've made a couple of adjustments and play to different strengths. I also did a duet with the drummer, which was fun.
I will do. But will be at irregular times. Still got a couple of months hanging around. It's probably going to take a bit of an adjustment watching matches at 11pm on Saturdays and 4am listening on Wednesdays.
