If we go into this season with what we have now (one proven striker) I think there will be trouble in store for us. I think Bruce hinted with sess being another forward option, he only wants 4 strikers, so gyan, wickham, sess, Campbell? I can just see it now, gyan and wickham get injured and Bruce coming out with things such as 'we only have sess up there, got no options upfront' 'due to injuries we are short in that department'..... Same story from last season. We need a striker, and one that Consistantly score goals. We still havnt replaced bent, and my fear is they won't. Defence ok, midfield ok, just need that one last person in to bolster our attack.
We need one now. We havnt got a proven premier league goalscorer. How do people expect Europe without one of them.
A mackem actually finally agrees with me. I've been saying it to a few mackem friends of mine (and even on here) but I just get slated as being 'overly critical'. Wickham is not the finished product by any stretch of the imagination, and he could quite easily take a few seasons to develop. That just leaves Gyan as the only certain proven striker. If Gyan gets injured or leaves for the African cup, it becomes difficult, then if one of the other players get injured in the mean time (like Sess) then you're back up **** creek again just as much as last season.
Well we have this so called wonderkid, and if he doesn't get a chance we will never know. Surely we havn't paid all that money to wrap him up in cotton wool.
We do need another striker whoever that maybe time will tell, I expect Bruce to exploit the Loan system again tho. I dont think we'll get into Europe this season.
I'm sure one is probably in the funnel, but let's say we get Wellbeck (who, to my mind; mind, isn't the finished article either) and that Dong or Whickam start brilliantly....oh wouldn't that be lovely? They have been bought for a reason and have to do a job somewhere along the line. x
Yeah sure but welbeck isn't going to come, fergie has said that. I've stuck by Bruce through thick and thin but if he starts them same excuses next year, I'll want him out. Weve spent millions upon millions in the last few years and it's about time the excuses stop and results happen. You can also bet your bottom dollar we will go to everton this year and be walked over, every year that happens.
The problem is though with Welbeck or the likes of, SAF will have it in the contract that if he is fit, he has to play, the problem then is like bonny said, if the 2 young lads are exceptional off the bench one week and come on for welbeck who was not very good, the week after Bruce still has to play welbeck. look at the start of last season, loads on here saying why the hell is he playing welbeck in front of our strikers (obviusly Gyan wasnt match fit either) but the same will happen next season. Lets get our own players in, its not like Bruce has a net spend of - £40,000,000 its more like + £7,000,000 since he came into the club. (and if he can sell some players, thats an even bigger +
and DJ Campbell would only cost £1.25m ...... he got 13 goals last season in the PL for a relegated team. My preference would be an established player in mid twenties, with a proven scoring record (15 a season) and its that important pay him whatever it takes!!!
When I comes to that game I'm never disappointed because I know the performance and result already...... They will get an opener early on (usually cahill) Then get another one before half time, to kill our spirits Then another round the hour Mark to kill the game.

Bruce isnt stupid lads I trust him 100% on the striker front, look at our strikeforce for last season, Gyan/Bent/Campbell/Welbeck. Bruce will get someone in to smash Chappaz and his mag mates on August 20th!!
according to one of the journo's we are waiting till Man United come back off there pre-season tour to see if we can get Welbeck. Brucie will not be looking at anyone else till he gets an answer off Fergie
He wont be waiting for the end of the tour, he will have loads of "irons in the fire" as Bruce would say. Too much of a risk as Cyrus says to wait for Welbeck incase Fergie says no.
I agree poolie, he may well be waiting ..... but he must have other possibles otherwise we will get to 31st August and end up with a panic signing like 'FLO' He should sign Bendtner on loan for 12 months with a view to a permanent move and if he can get Welbeck as well, great.
