Just looking at our Championship/Premier League meetings(since 05/06), our record isn't clever - W/4 D/1 L/9
Bogey team or not forget all that we simply have to go out and win. Sunderland kick off 12.45 so we will be able to watch that know their score and then get down to the KC. Its another one of those big games in our history were the players/crowd should be up for it. The stadium should be bouncing from 2.55. I think the North have been brilliant lately, the East/South decent but have to do more on Saturday, unite for this big day and drive the team to that so needed victory. Burnley will come at us they need to win as much as us if not more it will an exciting tense game lets hope we come out on top. if you are going sing your hearts out for the lads victory could make such a huge difference
Well what better opportunity then Saturday, to make a start in returning those stats to the mean. Last thing we need at kick-off is a subdued atmosphere because of all this 'bogey team' superstitious claptrap nonsense.
I think they beat us 7 times in a row and some of those were incredibly frustrating games for various reasons which makes them seem even more of a hoodoo. There was the Mike Jones Halloween refereeing debacle, the 4-1 capitulation under Dowie, a 4-0 loss when we were utter ****e early in Nigel Pearsons reign, the 3-2 where we were 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go under Barmby, the Gulacsi/Hobbs howler, the one where Marney scored and celebrated down the entire length of the East stand and then this year's shower of **** at turf moor. Punctuated only by just the 1 win when Quinny scored late on in our last promotion season. 8 losses out of 9. It'll have absolutely no bearing on Saturday's game, but it really is a hell of a bad run.
Also having no bearing is the fact that in the Premier League we have never won a game in May. To date: P. 10 L. 7 D. 3. Another hell of a bad run!
I have a vauge recollection of an end of season game at Burnley late 70's or early 80's when we could have been promoted to Div 1 on goal difference. Needed to win by 3 or 4 goals and came just short. Or was it a dream?
I take it that was the 84 game mentioned earlier where the team had to win by 3 and only won 2-0, that was for promotion to division 2.
Yeah I was there, I still remember there seeming to be more Blunts fans than anything else, the bastards! 31 years ago, jeez that's frightening!
Burnley this season will live long in my memory. As OLM said the worst performance of the season, bad mouthed by some of Burnley's finest on my way back to the car, some little scrotes giving verbal abuse when I was stopped at the traffic lights in Brierfield then tea with the Burnley and TWS supporting inlaws and family.. Things can only improve I thought as I set off home, a flat tyre just outside Fridaythorpe soon stopped any positive thoughts I had. What makes it worse is I lived just down the road from Burnley for 12 long weary years and grew to hate the place and its sub-human inhabitants.Bitter?, too bloody right I am. Just for tthe record I think we will win on Saturday.
Remember that Geovanni stunner of a free kick which the ref wrongly ruled out? we lost that one too..
We were absolutely crap at Burnley, worst performance this season and there has been some poor ones! At least if Brucey plays his cards right this weekend we should start with N'Doye and Jelavic. Great to have Jela back and no point in sitting back and hitting Burnley on the counter, we have to go for it, just have Burnley have to. 3 points has to be the only acceptable result. Our game on Saturday and Slumberlands at home to Leicester a week later will decide who goes down along with the two teams currently destined for the bottom two. Its between Sunderland and ourselves I reckon?
Is frightening I was there too Won by two when we needed to win by three!!! And you're right there were more Blunts that Burnley there Proper 80s scary trip as a youngster. Jumping on a coach from Ferensway and getting dropped off well away from the ground with no colours, just as we'd seen some City fighting in the middle of the road I don't remember being booed!
