I don't mind it too much really as they are a bigger club. That said if we could have Wally Downes back off them I would be delighted. His arrival at the club last season prompted our defense to shore up and probably stopped the downward spiral (along with Lee and Whelps arriving). Perhaps Mark Robson returning as number 2? I'm not sure if he left Peterborough when Ferguson came back in? Maybe we can go in and get Martin Hayes! haha!
All this talk of him abandoning us is a joke - don't think any working man or woman on this forum would pass up an opportunity to progress like this. As for his replacement...well it remains to be seen how much influence Hendon had on proceedings last year, I like to think that when it comes to the crunch, Hessy is very much his own man. The Peter Taylor suggestion is an absolute trainwreck, how about Iffy after his roaring success with Ethiopia...?
I guess my views really stem from my disagreement at having a `Director of Football` role in the modern game. Not saying that Peter Taylor is at all the sort of character that would cause such problems, but having a DOF in place puts extra unwanted pressure on the manager and coaching team, and personally I think Taylor would get too involved in picking the team. I know he worked wonders for us, but ask a lot of Bradford fans and they will say he's one of the worst managers that they've had in their history. It's not that I think having Peter back at the club would be a train wreck, I think the general DOF idea is one in itself.
has this acctually been confirmed by the club? because i havent seen it anywhere and we all know how accurate the papers can be during the transfer window!!
Fair enough, thanks for the explanation, the reason I put forward the DOF suggestion in the first place was because of a few reasons really, firstly Hess has said in the past that he does occasionally ask Taylor for advice so having him at the club would make this easier plus he has a different tactical perception to Hess, secondly I don't think that Taylor would come in as a number 2 so it was an alternative. Thirdly, he has far more links to clubs than Hess does, coming from being in the game longer and also his time with England, U21's etc. We know they can work together but I don't think it'll happen. but I never thought we'd get Whelpdale and Lee. So shows what I know. LOL UTG
These links may help. It may be that the club are have delayed making the announcement until a replacement is in situ. http://www.kentsportsnews.com/News-...11/Gills-begin-search-for-new-number-two.aspx http://www.kentnews.co.uk/sport/hendon_set_for_west_ham_role_1_958935 I think that Southall may be a little inexperienced for the post. However, he is great friends with Hessy and this may be the main reason that he gets the job.Iffy may be the better choice.
People seem to forget that Iffy was on a silly amount of money in Etheopia (spelling) and don't think he would come back as Number 2!
