I really struggled on that one actually Fats. Barry Horne almost got in for the goal against Oldham. Chris Marsden was in contention....actually I kinda love Big Vic so he wouldn't have been too far from the reckoning either.

Matty's favourite team involving the guys he played with [4-4-2]: http://www1.skysports.com/football/...all-club-matt-le-tissier-picks-his-one2eleven

    Tim Flowers

    Jeff Kenna.....Dean Richards.....Mark Wright.....Derek Statham

    Danny Wallace.....Jimmy Case.....Ronnie Eklund.....Rod Wallace

    Alan Shearer.....Marian Pahars

To be fair, that's a pretty damn good team. Franny will be a bit peeved. As will Razor, I'd imagine. And Doddsy too. In fact. I suspect quite a few will get a slight case of the 'umps. <whistle>

Oh, and while looking for the SKY video which inspired the post, I found this 1996 interview: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/...derstanding-the-monday-interview-1314772.html

Oops..! I'm late to the party. Oh well, I'll leave it as the line up is there to see.

I'm going to forgive youTSS, for finding such a fabulous interview. I found myself feeling proud, happy, angry and sad whilst reading that.

I always liked Terry Venables but could never understand him not playing Le God.

Interesting comment from Ron Atkinson and Andy Gray's comments. Glad Gray has disappeared into the wilderness for being a sexist twat. I had never heard that bit before. Hey Mr Gray - that Gary Neville makes you look like an amateur.

I have 2 thoughts about all these best elevens....how would the style of some of these players fit in with the modern game and how would the players from the past play under modern training conditions. I am a believer that if you were a great player in the 40s, 50, and 60s, you would be a great player now, but you wouldn't be the same because you would have undergone a modern training and fitness regimen. However, I'm not so sure about how well players would do if they relied not on great skill, but on spirit and strength.

    Interesting thoughts.
My own thoughts are that the emphasis in football has gone from strength and spirit to skill and speed. If one takes those players who had those latter attributes from the past they would almost certainly be even better today. And how about the number of players who didn't make it because they didn't have enough of those former attributes..? One can be born into the wrong era. Why has the emphasis changed..? For my money it has been the quality of first class pitches worldwide. It has helped to dramatically change the game.

Sorry I was confused as you spelt his name wrong. It's Davies, but I agree with your reasoning!
