While listening to Radio 5 Live today, an interview with a Hartlepool fan caught my attention. It is well-known that the Monkey Hangers do 'big away days' at the end of the season, with many fans dressing exactly the same. Some of the previous years has seen them as Smurfs (with blue faces), Thunderbirds Puppets (with orange faces), Penguins (with black faces), Oompah Loompah's (with orange faces) and plenty of other themes.

This year, they are doing a 'Bob Marley' / Reggie day out, and some 'body' has intervened to advise Hartlepool fans to not paint their faces black, as it might be offensive to some people!

It is a fun day out with no malice and no agenda, other than to party. Am I the only one that find such restrictions as absolutely bloody ridiculous?

It's fecking ridiculous, I might be missing something here but I would have thought that the fact they all want to dress and look like a black icon is a massive complement to the man. This bloody country is going to hell in a handcart thanks to politically correct, sandal wearing, vegetarian, tree hugging, woolly minded twats, makes my blood boil. <grr>

It raises the question of whether a black Hartlepool supporter would be allowed to go as Bob Marley (which I guess shows how ridiculous it is and, incidentally, how the 'body' saying that fans shouldn't black up assumes that everyone is white, which in itself is not very politically correct.)

I know this kind of hypersensitivity is crazy, but 'political correctness' is a good thing in many ways. But it should be about treating everyone with equal respect and trying to create a society that is fair for all. Simple, really. Or should be.

Be more interesting if they'd decided on a theme of burqas.
Especially if their last match of the season had been at somewhere like Bradford or Oldham <yikes>

Would not the Jamacan fans be offended at B.Marley being depicted as white.

Having a very good tan and very bald head I often wear my rasta wig to keep my head warm during the winter. Locals p*** themselves laughing but I don't care it's nice and cosy.

This is PC gone bonkers. They should all strip off in protest during the match and see how the stewards deal with that one. 300 odd fans in their birthday suits would be two fingers (!) up to the PC brigade.
