It's an interesting one. I don't think it's really related to psychology and more related to tactical discipline and shrewdness. Wenger can be too predictable at times and Mourinho knows how to frustrate him (hence why Arsene hasn't beaten him yet). We all know Wenger loves an open, free-flowing game but you need to adapt to your opposition, particularly in the bigger games. Not every team is going to play expansive football so you need to mix up your game plan and tactics. Now sometimes I feel he has tried to do this, but hasn't had the personnel to achieve this (partially his own fault). Other times I think the players have been naive and when they get frustrated, they push forward and lose positional sense which makes us susceptible to the counter attack. The latter has been a common theme for many years and it has begged the question why it had been our achilles heel for so long. I can only assume the players were either very naive, ignored the manager's instructions or the manager was not stern enough with the players when it comes to overcommitting. With that being said, I think the longer this winless run continues, it does start to play on his mind and begins to affect him. Today was a classic example, in my opinion, where his ego clouded his judgement. The game was level, there was about 15 minutes left and he wanted to go all out for the win. He took off Coquelin and put on Welbeck. I understood that he felt we could have got something more from the game, but it was an unnecessary risk considering how effective Coquelin has been in intercepting and breaking up play. Why not take off Giroud earlier who was being well-marshaled by Terry and Cahill? We still needed Coquelin's presence to cover ground in midfield. We were more vulnerable on the counter when he came off. It's decisions like that which have cost us in the past.
Maybe, maybe not. What was evident yesterday though was save for the last 10-15 minutes when he chucked on some attackers, Arsenal really played within themselves and seemed very fearful of committing too many men forward. I thought it was quite entertaining for a nil nil and probably a fair result.
first half was a good game tbh, second half was too cagey from both sides, chelsea were content to play across back 4 and get a draw/point nearer title, and your defence was very effective in keeping us away from penalty box or creating decent chances, but the nearer it came to the end i felt arsenal had a bit more ambition to win the game. if the game had been earlier in the season it would still have been the same tactics from JM, he knows how to set up against us/manure/city/liverpool and get 4 points out of each 2 games per season. if he wasn't such an arrogant smug **** he would be admired more for his tactical astuteness, but he probably doesn't give a **** what media/other fans think. if he doesn't deliver CL next season then do you think he will move on or be moved on by Roman ?
Why would you think he won't deliver PL next season? He always has. Roman is playing a different game with FFP and Jose is winning things and making money for Romans Company/Team. Roman is a tad more pragmatic now, and his love of "sexy" football is being softened by the reality of the finances. Arsenal are the ones who need a long hard think about the future of their manager, not Chelsea. Staying too long breeds complacency, comfort, sloppiness and arrogance. Wenger, a fine coach, is exhibiting all of the signs that the time is ripe to go.
I said CL - Champions League! so to reiterate if he doesn't deliver the CL next season do you think Jose will move on ? As we all know Jose only stays at a club for a couple of seasons then moves to a new venture, imo he may go to Bundeslige to try to win title there, so he would have La Liga. PL, and Italian League titles - which no other current coach has done (don't think anyone has)
Maybe we should leave next season for now and just enjoy anything that may come our way in this one. Who knows what tomorrow brings?
There are maybe only 2 jobs left for Jose, Bayern and Portugal. He's done everything else. Portugal will be his last job IMO, maybe in 5-10 years time. But I don't think he'd be let go for not winning the champions league. Having already won it, it is not the holy grail it once was. Also, we cant compete financially with the Spanish clubs, United etc so I can't see us being so quick to move managers on as we once were chasing an almost impossible dream.
No, I think we''l get four seasons out of Jose this time. Possibly five. If he stays that long there is a good chance we'll win a couple of Prems, couple of domestic cups and a CL
