Good luck, Squire, me old love. Back to back wins would be just what the old boy doctor ordered. Must confess I missed Saturday’s racing up to the point where Mr Henderson, the forum’s favourite trainer, won the last 2 races. What a joy that was, people. Great to see Cocktails At Dawn, finally, show his true potential and Polly Peachum, what a lovely name for a mare by the way, win the Listed affair. Didn’t miss anything before this wonderful double did, I say did, I??? Good luck, crew.
Cocktails loved every minute of it Barney, jumped for fun out in front and never looked like stopping! About effing time he won!
Good Luck with Squire Guy's Have you backed Marciano 1:30 Southwell returning to the A/W with cheekpieces back on?
Good luck today Stick! You going to Kempton to cheer him on? Just so I know whether to back him Will have a little punt for some fun on him but hope he comes back well!
Good luck stick. I was hoping to see you on TV but ATR aren't covering Kempton If he's been showing better form at home and there is more to come, my big question is "On what surface has he been showing that form?"
Good luck later Stick. One I like today is in the last at Southwell. MISU MAC has been running really well here of late with 2 wins and a second. His first win was 66/1 and he showed that was no fluke by going in again. Last time out he beat SAVED MY BACON who has franked the form by winning by nearly 4 lengths yesterday. Around 5/2 and can see this one going in again today.
Naughty after timing - lovely bets on Marciano and Red Tycoon, here in DK we're not allowed to bet E-way so win bets coming up on Director who was heavily backed on it's debut and not disgraced and Jinky - and of course Squire Best of luck Stick
SQUIRE .. 3rd for the ew thieves in a muddling race with some strange equine behaviour on show !! ... Well donr to Stick and his syndicate .. upped a grade and not out of place .. could have been a tad handier ... but cash is cash ..
I think it was Embankment that had second thoughts about starting .. usual performance - and gave them 15l start .. then it appeared the leader tried to pull up .. and then started running again ... but too late .. a real off race with Squire trying for a gap and losing a bit of ground .. always posted wide and coming with a late charge (trademark for Kempton) to grab 3rd on the line ...
What made it a poor race with regard taking any form out of it is that the idiot Fanning set a pace which meant anyone who had backed his horse could throw away the ticket at the end of the first two furlongs, hardly any horses got involved due to the silly pace set up front and those benefitted were the stayers. It actually played to Squires strengths over a mile in my opinion and allowed him to claim the each way money. I never backed in the race as I couldn't have confidence in Stick's back on the all weather and yet didn't fancy anything else with any conviction, what annoys me however is the tactical ineptitude with which Johnston horses are ridden way to often for my liking. Did Joe Fanning really expect him to last to the finishing line at that pace, and no Joe they are not imbued with some magical ingredient that makes them fight to not allow another horse past in a finish as some in the racing media would have you believe.
Happy with this performance, can see him winning a few more races yet. Over at Windsor later I see Hannon only has one running tonight which is unusual but the other trainer with one runner is Johnston in the opener. Over the last couple of weeks he has had quite a few first time out winners and this does seem a long way to come just for one race. High draw may not be ideal but I'm going to have an e/w bet on BATHOS.
Nice one GM, Waiting on Gossipping in the next for a double.. Good run by Squire earlier, if he settled better early on would have been much closer.
Nice double, well done. After timing but I did not put up Wolvers but I nearly put up Mr Chocolate Drop. Backed it at 25/1 and has just won at 40's. Have it in doubles with LADY ATLAS, BLACK TRUFFLE and YORKSHIREMAN.
George Baker lost on Arc lighter by using his whip in his right hand and causing the horse to veer left last week, so this week the horse is entered again in a race and backed again by connections and George does the same thing. This horse responds very markedly to the whip, he goes the way you ask him so do not ask him to veer to the left, either just push him out or ask him to go to the rail which will stop him, ideally not starting too far away from it to begin with. This week was worse as he asked him left realised he went so fiddled his whip asked him right, then once he went so George fiddled whip again and asked him left again ..... all within the last furlong. I would have liked there to be another two furlongs just to see how long it took for him to realise the connection between the horse's movement and his whip.
Cheers fellas. He ran an ok race today but again things went a bit wrong. He refused to settle even off what the jockeys called a strong pace and then when he needed to get his run started he didn't have a clear run. When he got out in the clear he seemed to take an eternity to get going and the winner had flown. if he is ever to win at that track and trip he will need to be prominent from the off. Personally I think he is going to be best suited by a mile on turf at a stiffish track. Sandown would be perfect for him with Ascot another suitable venue. I wouldn't mind if he never set foot on the all weather again! Pleased with the place but feel it was a run wasted. Glad he just outran Blueskys prediction.........just!
