Rhys that is sentiment talking, remember Brendan has said that goes out of the window this season, I feel with training starting tomorrow we will hear about people moving on
Year on year he seems to prove so many people wrong I know this is by far the biggest obstacle he is ever going to come up against in his football playing career but he will be our rock and will help caulker so much this year, buck knows what he is doing. Go and show them what we can do boys STID
Monk is captain of a league climbing promotion winning premiership team and under contract, which makes him a valuable asset to us .So iff rogers thinks he can cut it in the prem so be it !. But iff any doubt exsists now is the time to sell him, for the maximum we are likely to get from ambitious lower league teams is right now !
Monk is a team player amongst a team full of team players & a captain to boot . He may not be even near a top CB in this league but he is to our game . I'm a bit leery of letting to many of these " team " type players go for fear of losing our gel built these past 4 or so seasons .
Jager that is not sentiment talking. I said he is a very good player (or something to that affect, can't see what I wrote) He was fantastic for us last season, and therefore deserves his shot in the Prem. there's no sentiment in that. He is good enough to be in this Swansea team at the moment on account of what he did last season, just as it is for Scott Sinclair, or Ashley Williams. Age shouldn't come into it. If your good enough, then your old enou....oh wait What i'm saying is that he should be in the team because he is a good player. I think your letting his age, and the fact he came up with us from league 2 cloud your judgement on him. Because if you actually watch Garrys game closely, as I have done, then you will see he should be in the team. I don't think he made as many blunders as Ash did last season. It's as simple as that for me.
all our players deserve the chance to aquit them selves and should iether get a start or a place on the bench if we make alot of changes we may lose the spirit we have in the team if monk is found wanting or any other player ive no dowt a change will be made. i dont think taylor is good enough for this league ashe is poor when under pressure tate and williams tidied up afther him alot last season and i dont think we can afford this at a higher level
Rhys it is sentiment as you are allowing what he done last season, to transfer to the next one, I am not for or against him by the way, just facing reality here, he will be found wanting in the premier league imo the same for tate, as its an opinion I could be wrong, but if I am not they should go, as they will basically be doing nothing, but they are under contract so I can appreciate it if they do not go.
I'd rather have some of the Monk's , Tates , Brittons , Gowers & go down , than go down without them . The new " Premier " type wages for some of the incoming players could make things difficult if we drop . I'm not saying these guys should start a majority of games , just be part of the squad .
i think he deserves to play in the pl. if hes found wanting then he can go, with many thanks and best wishes for all his efforts in a swans shirt.
Rodgers has no time for sentiment. Martinez sometimes seemed a bit of a soft touch but Rodgers seems removed from all that. Remember when he dropped Luke Moore after he scored the previous game? Asked by an interviewer what Moore thought about that, Rodgers replied words to the effect 'Don't know, don't care. I pick the team that I believe can go out and win the game'. That's the way it should be. The fans are allowed to be sentimental if that's their inclination, but face facts. Tate and Monk are not Prem quality. Both may be OK squad players and Tate in particular is pretty versatile. But regulars? Not a chance.
We are entering the Prem with a number of players that we acquired in L1 and L2 days - this includes Monk, Tate, Rangel, Britton - even Williams. They have taken us a long way and been great members of the club and community; but, this is where the rubber meets the road. Some, perhaps all, will be found wanting. We can all point to incidents captured on video on Swans Player over the last few seasons where we just cringe at what happened with a some (not all) of these players. If we off-loaded them all now we wouldn't have a a squad, but this is one of the marked differences between 2011 and 1981. This time the make-up of the squad is definitely different, both in terms of numbers (~30%) of young players (younger than 22) that could start in our first team and the proven depth and breadth of the experience of the remainder in the top flight. We're walking almost naked into the Prem and it's going to be scary.
Couldn't agree more... Same with a few other lads (Tate, Leon, Gower) etc... They got us here and deserve a chance to compete!! Didn't Hull go all out and spend huge sums on lots and lots of fresh faces when they went up? And despite avoiding the drop for 1 season then came back down in a world of financial hurt!! Give the lads that got us up a chance, but have options there ready for if they're found wanting
If I was Tate , Monk , Britton , Allen , Gower , , I would embrace the bench & enjoy the ride with chances to play here & there . Williams , Caulker, Rangel , Sinclair , Dyer , Graham & Dobbie will eventually bare the load , Allen & Britton sharing a spot IMO . A new , high end , central midfielder & a new left back & were good to go . Anything else should wait till January , unless Buck runs into one of his exceptional deals , which could be any day now !!
They aren't premier league players (but then again nobody thought they were good enough for the Championship when we got promoted 3 years back either) however they are useful backups. Monk should only be sold if we have 4 other centre backs better than him (currently we have 2) and Tate should be kept around unless we have 4 better centre backs, 2 better right backs and 2 better left backs.
This rumour was completely made up by a poster on the main independent Southammpton forum. As far as the fans know, there is nothing in this. Good luck to Swansea, I think they have a good chance of staying up.
