Apologies for the brief version of this, I am between client meetings, and have 15 minutes to spare. The one against Bournemouth will be more in depth. Seems now is the time of the season, whereby teams that are guaranteed safety, will find themselves fielding youngsters and testing out kamikaze tactics! This Saturday, we head to St Andrew's in a decent run of form, undefeated in the last three matches, looking possibly to build on this. The Opposition: Gary Rowett, former Charlton player but over his two year stint at the club played only a handful of games due a persistent injury. Rowett seems to have changed around Birmingham City's fortunes ever since he took over in October 2014. Whilst Birmingham's away form is something that can be explained as abysmal, Rowett certainly has made St Andrew's a fortress, as they remain undefeated in their last six home matches. Current Form: Birmingham City | W W D W W D (Home) Charlton Athletic | L W W L D D (Away) Head-To-Head: Over the last three seasons, there has been the following: 1 Charlton Win | 3 Draws | 1 Birmingham Win Line Up: please log in to view this image We're going to start with a 4 - 5 - 1 given their home form. If we go behind, I can see Watt, Vetokele and Guðmundsson come onto the pitch. It would be nice, to see players like Ahearne-Grant, Jackson, Moussa make the line up if they're fit. Outcome: Given Birmingham's good record under Rowett at home, combined with how we started against Leeds United and preceding games, I don't think that this is one we're going to win. We're going to be fielding some of the younger players, to given them match experience. Birmingham City 1 - 0 Charlton Athletic
For sure. Very similar record to Sir Chris at Huddersfield. Michael Morrison can take a lot of credit too. Birmingham's poor spell in the middle of Rowett's reign coincided with Morrison being out injured.
We will not see Jackson or Moussa again this season. Nice idea, but I not sure who is remotely ready. Harriott is injured, while Pigott, Pope, Obileye, Ansah, Muldoon and Holmes-Dennis are out on loan. I can only think of Lennon, and he spent his time at Cambridge in Div Two sitting on the bench, which is not encouraging. And the u-18s are needed for their National Semi-Final against Forest at the Valley at 11.00am tomorrow, a more important match than our nothing League fixture.
what amazes me is we're yet to do any business. we have had a 4 week head start on contracts and tapping up players, yet we've done sod all. hope tomorrow we give a few youth a go. give games to those who are being shown the door.
I'm at this game today, don't often do away games but got a mate from uni who lives in Birmingham so thought might as well. We need a result for my sake
Your wish is granted. Ben Haim and Johnson at CB. RD thinks they will have a great future with more experience. But they are being pushed hard by the even younger pairing of Bikey and Oneywu who played for the u21s today and only let five goals go past them.
Muldoon starts his first ever League match, for Gillingham. Holmes-Dennis gives Plymouth the lead in their vital promotion match against Tranmere.
An hour gone and Birmingham well on top with far more shots and corners, but no clinical finish. They have hit the woodwork twice, though. Stlll a chance we could nick it with a bit of magic from Watt or JBG. Millwall 3-1 up against "far the best team in the division" and out of the bottom three. Eagles and Church on for Bulot and Vetokele.
10 mins to go and Birmingham 1-0 up. Lloyd Dyer through Solly's legs. It's been coming since the kick-off. Finished 1-0. Well beaten though our defence did well.
All the reports indicate it was an awful performance - Luzon also saying it was our worst performance under him. Watford are the first team to be promoted. Is it 2 or 3 years it's taken for them to get promoted since the pozzo takeover?
Think this is their third season? Zola was manager wasn't he when they lost the play off final to Palace and they've been in the Premiership for two seasons now.
It's funnier knowing they fought the drop. Hope they win next Saturday and we lose to Rotherham with a 96th minute og from Steve Morison.
Sweet minute with Derby and Rotherham equalising. 3points vs Reading on Tuesday saves the Millers and sends down that other lot. Happy day.
