selfish to succeed". http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...gland-players-are-too-selfish-to-succeed.html Paul Scholes says he felt that certain England players saw England caps as nothing more than a way of gaining a transfer and/or earning a bigger contract and gives this as one of the reasons for quitting international football early. I think he makes some good points.
I have been saying this for years. In england there is the 'i have made it' mentality which sees youngsters not fulfilling their potential No way with some of the players england have had should the record be what it is when I look at youngsters who had 'potential' but didnt fulfill it, its like agraveyard
I was reading the Fulham forum awhile ago and someone brought up a good point about the England squad. It seems like a majority of them don't really care about playing for England, they show up because they feel its required. Obviously not true of everyone, but I do get that vibe. Where as someone like the United States have a squad full of people who take a lot of pride in playing for their country. Probably why they still get some good results with a very mediocre team with a few exceptions.
"...there are individuals who are after personal glory... when there is a simple pass of 10 yards, they might try and smack it 80 yards. They will do things to try and get themselves noticed. " No prizes for guessing who he's referring to here. And he's right, about said person and about the England players in general. The question is, how do you change a mentality that's been deeply rooted to the Ingerlund players for the best part of the last two decades? Although, at least some of them should have learned a proper mentality at club level
I dont think its just the players personally Its the whole FA there was no reason to play becks after his metatarsel or rooney after his so soon, it was purely to satisfy the sponsors etc People refuse to accept it but its all about the money becks and rooney are/were the biggest money spinners in english football in terms of sponsors etc This isnt saying they are not good and shouldnt be in the england squad, but if they are injured they have to be left home
Since Scholes has retired he seems to have a lot to say.I hope he comes out with more jewelz as he never said much when he was playin!!!
I liked scholes for England and was always disgusted about the way he got pushed out to the left for Euro 2004
