Manchester City are considering the merits of QPR goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. The 25-year-old has had to take a back seat this season while in-form Robert Green held down the No 1 spot. However, the England U21 international is still recognised as one of the more talented English keepers in the country and has been the subject of interest from Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton over the past year. Alex McCarthy has played second fiddle to Rob Green at QPR but could be a target for Man City He joined QPR from Reading at the end of last August despite Brendan Rodgers making an attempt to take him to Anfield. City need to address their shortage of homegrown players and McCarthy could fit in. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ogbia-Man-City-weigh-QPR-s-Alex-McCarthy.html
There's little more than speculation in there but I can believe it's true and would be gutted if he went. I seriously rate him as a potential international.
He left Reading because he was stuck behind Federici. Why would he go to City when they have Hart and Caballero? Although we will have to start playing him if we want to keep him. Hopefully he can be #1 next season.
From his point of view, it is a bit of a no brainer. Potentially be our number one keeper in the lower PL/Championship or sit on the bench of a team who will be in the running to win things and play in the C.L. Remy had a similar decision to make and as far as I am concerned, he made the right one.
The difference there is that Remy seems to be more motivated by money than regular games. On the other hand, looking at what McCarthy has said in the past, he wants to play.
If he has any ambition beyond money then he needs to be playing week in week out, if we can offer that next season then should definitely stay where he is.
