One to watch - 25 year old Cliftonville striker Joe 'The Goal' Gormley reminds me a bit of Stuart Elliot... He's earned his nickname, in his first season in the top tier of amateur football in Northern Ireland(aged 20) he scored 61 goals in 24 games. He then moved to Cliftonville, where he's scored 85 goals in 135 league games(31 in 36 games this season, including five hat-tricks). He's won Northern Ireland footballer of the year, Northern Ireland Football Writers Player Of The Year, but bizarrely he still hasn't received a call-up to the national team. Leeds are rumoured to have bid £135k + add-ons for him in the summer, it seems likely that someone will take a punt on him for next season. Too big a leap from the Northern Ireland Premiership to the Premier League, but he's going to be an exciting addition for someone.
Well you could still get him and play him in the u21's or loan him out like Lenihan was (before he got injured). Also there is a chance we may not be in the premiership next season...
He certainly is in the right places at the right time. Missing one of Elliot's great attributes on this clip - don't think I spotted one headed goal (well maybe one on the goal-line). Apart from Chris Chilton, I've never seen anyone better with his head in a City shirt than SE. Mind you, CC didn't have such a good cartwheel celebration.
Just what I was thinking He certainly looks worth a punt for someone, but until he starts popping up at the back post for headed goals he's no Stuart Elliott
Little wonder he's reluctant to get his head near crosses if he's seen people are comparing him to the son of God.
No we wouldn't consider looking at him until the price is £8 million +. Why not buy him for bugger all and loan him out like we have with Harry M. At £135K there wouldn't even be a risk.
Shame he's not a little younger, at 24 he's a little old to be playing in our u21s. Then again, even if he only scored goals at League 1 level, we'd be able to make a little bit out of it
Robertson has made the step up to every level he's played at so far. Why shouldn't the President of the National Union of Mineworkers (Great Britain) from 1971 to 1982?
You did OLM put Elliot. Stuart Elliott along with Liam Rosenior are my favourite City players in recent times. Met Elliott and spoke to him and he was a top bloke. Given his success with us, his scoring record was absolutely outstanding, a great player for City.
