I would stick with Gutierrez and gradually bring Marveaux into the side. Gutierrez's link-up play with Enrique (if he stays) is very good, defensively and offensively. Until I see Marveaux give that commitment Jonas gives and prepares to do his share of defending and tracking back, then would I consider him for a starting place.

Marveaux to earn his place, coming on as a sub for Jonas. Right now I think our best midfield until we see him would have to be

    ------Cabaye Tiote
    Barton Ben Arfa Jonas

Marveaux could potentially displace any of those players, although he wouldnt keep Tiote or Ben Arfa out for long. He'll get chances, Tiote gets suspended a lot, Ben Arfa could have a reaction to his injury etc.

Jonas seems to play better when his position is being threatened too. As with anyone, his performances can only improve if there's the pressure of someone claiming his starting spot <diva>

It's as if he's just read this thread... Although this is more Ben Arfa centric:

That off Sky Sports? Just read that too. The title makes it seem as if Pardew's specifically on about just Ben Arfa needing to fight for his place.. but he's just on about the team as a whole. Silly titles.

Jonas does a lot of work, probably one of the hardest workers in the league, Marveaux will need to show lots of energy and commitment to displace him

True, happened with Ben Arfa and again with Ferguson towards the end of the season, the two good bursts of form he had.

Aye, so hopefully all this new competition will push him into playing like that all season round!

Imagine if Gutierrez produces the form Messi keeps on blagging about. World beater
