Well I just proved my point with England Ireland mate. It took almost a century for the **** to calm down. The imperials ie the UK and US have not left the middle east alone for even one decade in the last 100 years, is 10 decades long enough for you?

Any threat to the UK or US economy, is seen as a threat to national security, heck the US saw a strong Euro as a threat to national security, that is a fact.

So iraq refusing to trade dollars for oil, the US sees that as a threat. Libya, wanted to use a gold standard currency and trade oil for gold only, also seen as a grave threat to the US and UK, also a fact.

A gold African currency would have given Africa immense hold over western economics. god knows how many Euros or dollars or pounds would be the equal of one gold dinar!

Eqypt having Nasser, a nationalist who put Egypt before imperials, oil and the Suez canal were essential to British Israeli and French interests, the fact it was the soil of a foreign nation didn't matter, war was the answer.

Any resource rich nation that has had foreign control over it's resources, that then had a nationalist revolution, which was their own business, became a target.

Do you know how much BP lost when Gaddafi nationalised Libyan oil? French corps also lost bigtime. Libya was bombed without UN discussion or sanctioning of the attack, France UK and US went it alone and caused the deaths of 30,000 libyans and look at the ****ing state of the place now, a nest of militant terrorists, just like Iraq, people are so blinded by propaganda.

Libya was the most advanced African state bar SA in some elements but more in other ways, highest literacy, least homeless, free healthcare free education free electricity, free housing, oil stipend, free farm if you wanted to be a farmer and money for mothers who gave birth. Want a new car, the state paid half, It was not the death trap it is now, it was a beautiful country, and now it is a rotting pile of rubble and death thanks to NATO imperialism. Not only that but all Gaddafi's weapons were shipped to Turkey and sent into Syria, and ****ing ISIL\ISIS have them.

Do you actually believe MI6 didn't support assassinating attempts on Gaddafi, that killed innocent libyans? They did.

What's an Irishman's personal life and Finnish politics got to do with a discussion about British government spending on defence and the general election?

British politics have an impact on the lives of more than just British citizens.

He likes to throw insults cos he's got nothing else, I guess expressing some basic historical knowledge( i am no historian) irritates him

Totally uncalled for, that comment is racially motivated UIR, if you disagree with someone on here there is no need to bring national stereotypes into the equation.

It is just proof that his stereotypical view of the middle east is what it is. the propaganda has a strong hold over that one.

Also, he doesn't know that when Britons were living in mud huts, Irish priests came over to educated the poor savages.

Monastic schools in Ireland became centers of excellence for peoples from all over Europe. The historian Bede and an earlier English contemporary, Aldhelm, report that sizeable contingents of English students trained as missionaries in Ireland,

Again, dont act a tit in trying to defend that moron page. You start to look like one of the outrage brigade who look for things to shake their fist about.

However, do point out my use of tge stereotype at any point in this thread. By all means. I merely suggested he lives up to it.

You don't send "defence" overseas to nations that didn't attack you, to incinerate women children and unborn babies do you. I think you might want to look up the meaning of the word <whistle>
