Looks like I misjudged the mood of everyone on here! My thought come from living in Oxford and having watched a Milk Cup winning side fade until they were mid way down the Conference. I used to regularly see the pain in the eyes of guys in the local. Their own resurgence has only gone up half a step!
Not entirely Oxford! Most condemn Wigan for not being well supported but maybe we should think about those who do still support Wigan despite all the reasons not to (one of which is also that it surrounded by other options). Frankly 8 years in the PL and a cup is more than they could ever have hoped for, and they've circled the Premier League drain for so long that relegation was inevitable. A further drop is harsh though and those supporters know they are unlikely to ever to regain those heights. I think they deserve a moment in our thoughts... Ok, moment over. We move on.
I know it has to be done mainly for financial reasons, but I can't subscribe to clubs whose grounds alternate football with egg-chasing nonsense. Pitch cut to ribbons and rogue white lines that they 'try' to fade out but never actually manage to? Different sports, never mind different 'codes' - keep them apart
No it wasn't! I heard it myself and guessed some of you might think so. It was some impertinent imposter that caused me to have an "I'm the only Dave in this village" moment.
I was convinced it was you also, or at least it was you I immediately thought of when I heard the call
