http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/183556-26-years-on-never-forgotten Liverpool Football Club remembers the 96 supporters who died at Hillsborough on the 26th anniversary of the disaster. 96 children, men and women lost their lives as a result of the events at the FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest on April 15, 1989. For over a quarter of a century, the bereaved families and survivors of the disaster have demonstrated remarkable dignity and resilience. Liverpool Football Club pays tribute to all those affected by the disaster and the 96 supporters who will never be forgotten. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/183557-the-96-more-than-a-number Last year, at the start of the new inquests into the deaths of 96 supporters at Hillsborough, the families of those who died were asked to write and read out short personal portraits of each of the victims. This April 15 is the first Hillsborough anniversary since this process was concluded, with the final 'Pen Portraits' having been read out in court on April 28, 2014. Text versions of all the Pen Portraits are presented in new web pages dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives at Hillsborough. Click here to visit this page. Although collectively known as 'The 96', these personal tributes - by the people who knew them best - serve as a reminder that those whose lives were so tragically cut short at Hillsborough were more than a number. In formulating its customary day-long schedule of themed programming for April 15, LFCTV aimed to give the bereaved families of Hillsborough the opportunity of reading their loved ones' Pen Portraits to camera. In doing so, the channel attempted to get in touch with every Pen Portrait author and, at the time of writing, had had direct contact with almost 90 families. Almost 80 of them chose to either record their Pen Portrait with LFCTV, or gave their permission for footage previously recorded with the BBC to be used. The result is that many of the web pages housing a Pen Portrait also feature a video of family members reading their Pen Portraits out to camera. As well as being viewable on their own individual web pages, these videos have been incorporated into one of five parts of a programme titled More Than a Number, which, along with coverage of the Hillsborough Memorial Service, will fill the LFCTV schedule this April 15. http://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/latest-news/183158-how-to-watch-2015-memorial-service On Wednesday April 15, Liverpool supporters worldwide will be able to watch a day of themed programming to mark the 26th anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster free of charge. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/brother-hillsborough-victim-run-sheffield-9044885 The brother of a Hillsborough victim will take part in a 79 mile run from Hillsborough to Anfield to mark the 26th anniversary of the disaster. Steve Kelly, 62, lost his brother Michael, 38, in the 1989 tragedy – where 96 Liverpool FC fans were killed in a crush at the Sheffield Wednesday ground. He will join nine other runners who will take on the two-day run from Sheffield to Liverpool, arriving back in Merseyside on Saturday. On Sunday he’ll join more than 2,000 others, including his West Highland Terrier Jimmy, for the 5km Run for the 96 in Stanley Park. Steve, who took a break from running after breaking both his feet a few years ago, is planning to run and cycle the 72-mile route. He said: “I’ve joined the runners in previous years to run over the finish with them, just to look good for the cameras, but this year I’ll be taking more of a role. “I’ll be running as much as I can and cycling the rest of it to help keep people’s spirits up. “I’ve got 25 jokes prepared to keep the lads going. “I’m looking forward to it and we’ll get back to Liverpool for the 5km at Stanley Park, which will be great.”
I can't believe it's 26 years ago. It still seems like yesterday. RIP the 96. Justice must find its way through,
Justice is coming soon and the families and friends of those that died can finally lay their loved ones to rest and get on with their lives, in the knowledge that they earned their right to justice the hard way and they can rightly be proud of themselves. JFT96.
