An adventurous club who sometimes played decent football (despite being sneered at by the big sixes on match of the day) undone by mismanagement

Looks like they are headed whence they came

The same was said in some circles about us on our forage into Lg1. Fortunately we have a McNally.

Indeed we have China and yet there were 'fans' both on here and more so in the PinkUn who were calling for his head at the beginning of the year. <doh>

Quite honestly, no. The bizarre appointment of Makay, given all the furore about him and his actions, was asking for trouble. His management skills or lack of, have been highlighted in the past few months. Then the owner himself has hardly covered himself in glory. Whelan once owned Wigan Warriors Rugby League club, who I support, but he relinquished ownership several seasons ago.

Yes indeed. I'm sure a few were thinking WTF when our current manager was employed. It's a funny one re: Wigan. As a lad when ever a ball was skied over the bar we'd yell "three points to Wigan" so ingrained in us was their rugby status as a town. On the ascendancy I felt happy that they were climbing the ladder, but their ground always looked a bit forlorn and empty and I always had that niggling feeling that they wouldn't be around for too long. Perhaps that's another issue - is it hard to convert die hard Rugby towns to Association Football and is it sustainable when the big boys aren't calling or the telly money isn't rolling in?

Far from it. Shockingly poor attendances and a pitch that makes the Portaloo look like a snooker table <yikes>
Add to that an outspoken and non P.C. chairman and poor recruitment of recent mangers and you'd have to say....you got what's coming to you Whelan and co <ok>

In answer to the OP, a big fat NO !

Wigan is a town full of egg-chasing fans who do not deserve a top flight football club. Their place in the Champonship or indeed Premier League is better served by fans of a true footballing City or Town*

*Disclaimer - Other than Ipswich of course

You think "True footballing" and Ipswich" should appear on the same page???????

Don't know if it's been edited, but on my screen, KIO mentioned "fans of a true footballing City"
    Spelt perfectly correctly? :emoticon-0112-wonde

Is that a recent development? Don't think I've ever heard it mentioned before... ;)

It was broken playing in a cup final I believe. Checked and it was 1960 For Blackburn versus Wolves.

I think it was a tongue in cheek question, when Wigan won the cup it was mentioned a few thousand times! <ok>

I wonder how many fans of other clubs felt sorry for us when we were relegated to League 1 ?:emoticon-0138-think

I'm sure our 'friends' down the A140 did but I'm not so sure about any others :emoticon-0105-wink:
