Well kinda, I knew it was a gay and transgender bar, but having never been in one, I hadn't really a clue as to what it would be like, other than full of gay and transgender people. Bear in mind I was about 19 at the time as well. So a little green in terms of life experiences
Only place is Bletchley/Fenny Stratford, that was open past 11:30. This was in the days before 24 hour drinking licenses for pubs. Punters was technically deemed a nightclub so was allowed to stay open until 2am. So 8 of us were pissed and wanted to carry on drinking and it was the only place still open. We did get some odd looks when 8 blatantly not transgender guys bowled in
The Wyndham I mentioned used to be hilarious, full of old men who would just want to fight anyone that walked through the door. I haven't been there for years but I used to love it, as long as you stood up for yourself and told anyone who got aggressive to **** off you were ok, as soon as you backed off you were right in the **** and the punches would fly.
There used to be a huge pub in Warrington called The Longford. That was a serious rough house. It made the Cheese actually look like a country pub. A coachload of jocks once stopped there for a pint on the way back from Wembley. They wished they hadn't. One was killed and twenty odd ended up in Warrington General
The bookies was originally part of the pub(store room), in the 30's it was the biggest pub in the north west and even had uniformed commissionaire's on the doors , but during WW2 there was bigtime battles going on with the American servicemen from the Warrington airbase that came down for a fight with the local lads, after the war the brewery split the Eagle into two separate pubs and managed by two instead of one, and it steadily went downhill and gained a bad reputation. Used to be a great pub(for the locals)and so was Page Moss Labour Club and the Farmers Arms, all demolished and long gone now but there are pictures of them on the walls of the new pub here called The Old Bank, but its steadily getting a bad rep too, nothing changes. #groundhogday
There used to be a pub near me called the Farmer's Arms which was well known for trouble.I remember going there for a darts match around 1994,I went for a piss and when I returned the bar was empty except for a couple of lads from our team.I asked what was going on and was told to drink my ale and not get involved.I looked out of the window and everyone else was in the car park and a bit of a scrap was going on.A lad from our team and one from their team had a bit of history.Eventually a lot of teams in the darts league refused to play at the Farmers because of the constant trouble.
We used to visit the old lady on a regular basis but she sadly passed away in December 1985.When we used to go the Cheese was a Greenall Whitley pub and was quite a modern pub.I think at the time it had recently been refurbished.
