You may be right, but like you say the overall impression is that of a player who thinks he is his manager's equal in terms of his important to the team, which is generally a recipe for disaster.

That said, can't say I agree entirely with the sentiment that he owes something to LFC. Loyalty is a two way street in football - if Sterling wasn't played at the level LFC expected then he'd be out the door quicker than you can say "Spearing and Welbeck". So I personally wouldn't blame the lad for trying to get as much as he can whilst he has the chance to, particularly as he isn't the finished article yet, and may never be given the uncertainties of the football world. It's not like Liverpool paid a massive fee for him or won't get a big chunk if he leaves.

MITO gives the example of SWP as a player who moved too early and didn't have a stellar career. But there's no guarantee he could have achieved anything better staying where he was - he could have plateaued just as much at City and ended up with no trophies and much less cash in the bank. Big clubs nowadays are too fickle and quick to drop players who are under performing, which will imo always increase the pressure on players who are performing to milk it whilst they can.

How his career turns out.. no point even trying to guess. Given his current status and he went to any of the top sides in Europe, he's not in teh starting 11, and that is what he needs to get into his head. 100k a week, is not buttons, so he's looking at what others are getting paid, am sure the agent is no devils advocate in all of this too <laugh>

  3. The lads twenty with his while career ahead of him. He should concentrate on becoming the player his potential suggests before getting ahead of himself. He's been **** this season!

Why the duck did we only give him three years on the last renewal?

I reckon he has a decent chance of being first choice at Arsenal, possibly Chelsea as well if he's only got Will.i.an for competition to go on the other flank to Hazard.

Maybe not top European sides, but pretty much guaranteed CL next season, and higher salaries than Liverpool will offer. But as you say, he has to decide what's the best option for his career. Some players have made the jump to a top club at an early age and done great out of it - Ronaldo to Utd is one of the best examples - who knows if he'd still have reached the same heights if he'd spent another three years at Sporting.

Chelsea will be addressing their issues in the summer no doubt they have a number lined up. Hearing Pogba whispers but they are whispers probably bollocks who knows

If Germany, not getting into that Bayern often side as he is, still needs two or three seasons development. Maybe a few of the other sides but he's not getting loadsamoney. Spain or Italy.. I reckon they'll kick the ****e out of him in Italy and it wouldn't go well. Spain He's not getting into Madrid or Barca squads often. Atletico.. no idea tbh. The rest are't offering great pay or even coughing up enough. Holland, not happening. France PSG would be the only option and tbh, seeing them over 2 legs v the chavs, they prefer people who are extremely composed on the ball and all good passers. Not sure he fits that.

I could forgive the missed chances, but like Welbeck was for ye, his brain was always a yard behind his skills and this seems to be the current case with Sterling. Beating 4 players and rolling it to the keeper whilst falling over.. not a skill issue a speed of thought one as he should be already picking his spot, shooting early to catch the keeper out seems to be lost on him too and while he can go past someone easily and get to the byline his cutbacks and crosses seldom find a man.

once he gets that speed of thought and everything slows down in his head he'll do better.. if he can, it should come with experience though with Welbeck it still hasn't quite happened, almost but not quite.

I mean the logical thing is they pick a number, a juicy number and if the club don't meet it they wait till the summer to see who comes aknocking, which is win win cos if askers are not what he wants the club will probably bend over at that point and at least get somewhere near the number in his (and his agent's) head.

If sterling really thinks he's the real deal he should stay with us. He'll get game time with us and is still so young, plenty of time to get snapped up down the line as a galactico by Real. Him 'cashing out' this early won't help him. But meh, he's not playing a crucial role for us at the moment - he's wasted as a wing back and 40 million could be spend on a top striker.

I think swarbs has a point of course

If you look at it like this; we don't know what's on offer elsewhere and how long the queue is at his agents door.

Sometimes you hear of players who might have signed someplace but it never happened etc etc

Who knows but in the end it still boils down for me to the fact that right now put him through on goal he's as likely to have a frsh air kick as finish it and as we all know if you are at a club with options and pressure to win everything a manager is not going to trust that so while sure he may never win anything at liverpool he might not get 200k per week tomorrow but is virtually sure if his game and support to find form

I can say this for sure if I were picking lfc player if he year sterling would not be top 3 and he's not be near young player if the year imo that should be Kane, coutinho and perhaps hazard though he I feel should not qualify

    ......

I feel lfc talked too much in response to questions in interviews and we are now seeing rodgers basically saying talks have stalled to shift the problem off his fabulous offer talk etc and sterling is now outside the club giving interview to bbc

In short that's not healthy any which way. He says he has to have his say so I read that as lfc and rodgers have said a lot of crap and now it's my turn

    ..........

Finally he's already back at lfc in training do you think a few lads are giving him the cold shoulder by now.... I'd not be shocked frankly as that's goining outside the team imo

Sterling cant help what he is. He is a young premier league footballer and the club have to deal with players like that. I dont want him to leave, but do believe that we should cash in. he is a pace dependant player who will spend his later career injured. Not specific to Sterling but the club do have to sort out the contract policy. A few players have had issues and that isnt good

Very true red, very unprofessional, still you have to take each case on its merits or otherwise, Sterling has admitted backheeling a weekly pay rise of £65,000.
We are living in a time of austerity and foodbanks and struggling to keep up with ticket prices and that little twat is holding the club to ransom for even more than what's already been offered, he should be sold abroad for as much as we can get imo red.

  16. December 2012. So it was either a 4.5 or 5.5 year contract meaning it runs out in the summer of 2017 or 2018 then. That's another two or three seasons #noproblem

Well, I only skimmed it because I've more productive ways to spend my time than reading such stuff, but it seems his argument was intended to show that it isn't about the money so I'm not sure why people are accusing him of being a money-grabber.
I'm not defending him, he's wrong in so many ways, imo- but my interpretation of the statement is that no amount of money is going to keep him here because what he wants is to further his career and win trophies, and he sees a better opportunity for that elsewhere.
Though I can't imagine that he'd see Arsenal as much of a step up in that regard.

I fully agree with those who say it's too early in his career for him to be having these expectations. He is a great talent, but there are still aspects of his game that need improving. Far too many of the top clubs have very little interest in bringing on talent- they want everyone at the top of their game right now in order to succeed. He needs to keep his head down and work at his weak areas, and he'll get the chance to improve with us. There's plenty of time for a 20 year-old to get trophies in his career, but unfortunately it's a sign of the times- so many talented young players think they're the dog's bollocks and deserve everything now.

Instead of looking at where to go to get trophies, how about helping the club you're with win some?

And I think most of this current thought process is the agents. They ruin football really. I can see the club refusing to go higher than the supposed 100k offer and I think Sterling will be surprised how few bids come in for him in the summer - because he's not shown any form this season and has many flaws in his game which aint gonna be worked on at a bigger club who want ready made stars.

All the talk of selling him now for a big sum are wide of the mark imo. I don't see anyone bidding any higher than 20-25m for a kid who's not close to the finished item, who's got a pushy and demanding agent asking for massive wages and who willing (it seems) to run his contract down since he (and his agent) doesn't seem best pleased with the club right now.

Those who can afford him, won't play him.
Those who can win trophies, don't need him.
