Yes, unless he stays and signs then it is Raheem the Destroyer who will not hit his peak at 25 and will be the cornerstone of a great liverpool team who start an era of dominance that fergie could only dream about<ok>

Totally agree. £180k pw sets a very dangerous precedent for the club at a time when we are only just covering our outgoings and unlikey to have CL football next season.

We should look to off load and I wouldnt leave it until last minute in August either.

Ibe should be a suitable replacement but we need to spend any proceeds wisely and im not sure that Rodgers can do that!

I haven't read the rest of the thread...but the problem is regardless of his shortcomings, Sterling's the devil you know (and a pretty darn good one at that). Yeh, you'll make enough money from the sale, but do you trust LFC to reinvest it wisely. Right now I'd rather have Sterling than the cash.

In all honesty it's in the best interest of both Sterling AND the club if he stays. Ofcourse, I hope to sh1t that you flog him and spunk the money on Colback, Bolassie and Puncheon <laugh>

Thats the point. We would get good money for him but our track record of using that money wisely is not good is it?

We got good money for Suarez but did we use it wisely? No

We got good money for Torres did we use it wisely? No. We bought Carroll

I think it will be a set back if he left. Yes, we cannot let the club be shafted like this. But like Suarez it is just a shame.

We need to have a established system and team with top players to remain at the top of the league. All this chopping and changing with our top players leaving is not a recipe for staying in the top 4.

Our track record is terrible and that is what worries me with Rodgers but that aside we cant have a stable team with players holding the club to ransom with excessive wage demands. Our income is limted and if we start paying Sterling £180k pw who will be the next through the door to demand £200k?

our track record directly after getting money is truely terrible but our record a year later seems to be decent... I don't know why but it seems to be we don't plan succession well and we really ought to have the NEXt X already there not go looking for him and end up with balotelli in a panic.

FFS we knoew full well in jan 2014 that even as the ink dried on suarez new contract he was going to be off... at least us fans did. I siad time and again enjoy it while it lasts, a big bid from spain was coming. We should have in jan 14 bought suarez's replacement. then took the cash and laughed

IMO we should be selling three strikers this summer as dirt and buying one... to fix that.. we have to use ibe as the replacment for sterling imo.

Well that's starting to be a talking point as some of those signings are starting to look good. Your point is valid though, and we have to ensure that we do use the money wisely if he goes.

I think we'd all be happy enough for him to stay but only if he is commited to the club (he says he is), if he's not then we'll sell him and make good money. With us having Ibe and Sinclair as young replacements and Lallana and Markovic that can already play in his position I wouldn't even look to replace him directly.

A few of the players who left LFC recently:

    Mascherano
    Torres
    Alonso
    Suarez
    Reina
    Agger

    .... Gerrard

Arguably the backbone of a great team??

If Ibe is the player to replace Sterling, the potential to develop into a player of Sterling ability or better and has had a couple of games at RWB and one half decent game against an out of form Everton.......Why is nobody looking at him?

Ibe was often said to be a much better prospect but Sterling was a year or two ahead and got a chance with injuries to the first team and he took it. Both were clearly going to be good players though.

Although similar, they are actually quite different. Sterling has built good upper body strength, but he does lack strength in his legs and you notice that when it comes to shooting. Sterling is a typical winger where as Ibe is much more a forward (despite playing and doing well at WB). He's more natural infront of goal and his strike against you guys that hit the post show that he's far more comfortably than Stelring in striking a football.

I can't wait for Ibe to get a chance further forward, give him a chance to really show what he can do and how he can easily come in and replace Sterling.

Much like when Sterling was young and came in and showed Downing just how to be an attacking threat, I think if Ibe comes in and does similar then Sterling seems the sort to kick up a fuss and want to force a move, which wouldn't be terrible idea.

Don't worry they are but they all want proven big names cos they are mad. The clubs who come knocking would rather give you 60 mil than 40 mil when Barkley finally plays a good game for England

Ibe and Sterling are a bit different. Sure they are both pacey andt tricky but they have a different type. Sterling could become a play maker or false forward whilst Ibe is a more direct winger or AM. Ibe will be Ibe, not become Sterling.

The lesson which should have been learnt by Rodgers by now is that you cannot replace a star player with a host of VFM players. This is obvious but time and time again we make the same mistakes. When Suarez left we needed to replace him with a marquee signing. The same when Torres left. Someone to build the whole team around.

Despite all the protestations from Rodgers we have taken a massive step backwards this season and we are no closer to the top than when he started.

I agree that we should have replace Suarez with a big signing and that it cost us earlier in the season. However the people we have brought in are starting to come good and I think that with a 2nd place finish last season and a much better squad than Rodgers started with we have made good progress, to a point.

The next steps for Rodgers has to be trophes and consistantly finishing in the top 4. If he manages that then he's heading in the right direction and has made good progress.
