Sort of went under the radar last week.

I do hope if he is fit that he and in fact Joe Mason get a few games before the season ends. What would be the point of playing Jones any more when he is not going to be here next season?

Same goes for McAleny. If there is a chance to sign him then City should go for it.

Anyone have any idea if we'll see Pilkington again this season?

Pilks was in players' dugout Saturday - not limping.

I mentioned Healey's recall on Thursday on the Connolly loaned out thread.

It made me wonder which striker will be loaned out to save a few quid.

The way Slade has played it, without Jones' 13 goals we'd be in the bottom 6 right now - no one else has come close to his total.

I don't like the lazy fckr either, but he's got on the end of our Cape Canaveral tactics and put them away. Yes, he should have scored more with his feet but then so should have ALF, Noone and Whitts for instance. We're certainly not over-blessed on the scoring front and you could argue that Kenwyne has helped keep us up.

BTW, I'm still waiting for Macheda to get his head to a ball let alone score with it..........<laugh>

He'd have put away at least one of those KWJ chances but that's not really the point.

We won't spend any serious money this Summer. Macheda is 23 and his record starting games is the best at the club including his current 3 in 3 run.
If we can keep him fit (that's a big if) I cannot see how we'll sign a better striker this summer. That's the reason for my unwavering support rather than a belief he's the finished article.
He's a much better footballer than KWJ and as Doyle showed on Saturday you have to play the right way to give strikers a chance. We played better football Saturday, on the ground, balls played down the sides of the cb's. Doyle had his best game by a mile.

I agree that KWJ was essential when Slade was rekindling the spirit of the crazy gang. But that 'style' is something we need to move well away from and KWJ has no role in a real football side.

I don't care if Macheda never scores a goal with his head if he keeps on at a goal a game with his feet! <laugh>

Wouldn't argue with any of that Stevo. The big "if" is when we're going to move away from the long ball tactics under Slade and play the ball on the floor against better sides than Brum.

The reason it was more effective on Saturday was that Brum were set up so defensively that the Jones/Revell combo was a hopeless choice. The quick through ball to Doyle and the introduction of Kennedy was the answer but not the choice of Slade - it was ultimately forced upon him.

And I wouldn't argue with that Sparks <ok>

What I will say is we have noticeably reduced the long ball tactics since Trollope arrived. I renewed today as I said all along I just wanted to see us commit to play football. We were rubbish first half but at least we're looking to pass the ball. I can handle us being average, I just want us to be working towards becoming a football team not a kick and rush outfit.

I will acknowledge that Brum are absolutely as poor as it gets but that hasn't stopped us making hard work of it with other sides. We should have won 4 or 5 nil really.

I understand the comment about better sides but from small acorns and all that.... We need to get results whilst building a side and the hard to beat method has served us well in the last couple of encounters with the better teams in the division. I've been very short on any sort of hope and positivity this season so walking out of the CCS having enjoyed a performance by our lot was a feeling I welcomed back with open arms <ok>

Although I've banged on about the crap performances this season, I'll just have to admit (because you have <laugh>) that I've also renewed. Took the plunge a few weeks back before this current "upsurge" so I must be as daft as most on here.

I don't know why, but the feeling of abject dejection for next season is lifting. Nothing really to base it on, but I've got a suspicion that Tan will do the opposite to what everyone seems to be suggesting. Realising cash and getting out with what he can get doesn't look on to me. I think he'll come back next season and support a push.

It does look a lot more positive now....amazing what a couple of decent results does. Also we have the basis of a really good squad if we hold on to them next season.....Marshall, Manga, Fabio, Ralls, Kennedy, Noone, Pilks, Adeyemi, Mason. Add Big Ben Turner & Dickochai (possibly), a new quality right back, a central midfilder & a 25 plus a season striker & we'd be a decent side. Oh and a new manager wouldn't go a miss.

On the Rhys Healey thing, this is from the SW Argus........

"NEWPORT County boss Jimmy Dack has blasted the bureaucracy that scuppered a move for Cardiff City striker Rhys Healey. The Exiles have had the 20-year old Cardiff City prospect training with them all week but were unable to secure international clearance for the former Connah’s Quay striker and will now end the campaign without adding to their ranks.

He was recalled to Cardiff with manager Russell Slade keen to see him feature somewhere more regularly, opening the door for a switch to Rodney Parade. However, the loan didn’t progress due to confusion over the terms of his agreement with Colchester, with the authorities concluding that Healey wasn’t eligible for another temporary move.

“Rhys can’t play for the rest of the season now, he’s going to essentially have a career break and I don’t see how that can be right,” Dack told the Argus.

Is Dack suggesting from that that he can't even get some game time at his parent club?

I hope he can play this season. Let's see if he is good enough for this league.

Better than watching some of our other over hyped and over paid prima donnas.

we should use the departure of some of the highly paid 'stars', the fact that we won't reach the playoffs and won't get relegated to give some game time to Healy, Mason, Ralls, Harris etc. We might be pleasantly surprised. Healy up front with Mason as a 10 just off him. Could be a strike partnership for years to come.

From what I have seen Healey doesn't have the physical presence to do that job upfront.

Bluey - could be we're looking for a different approach upfront rather than the "physical presence" that's been the norm this season?

Macheda is a big guy who doesn't have it as he should have for his size, but he is good with his feet. You can definitely say that neither Noone nor Kennedy have it either, but each can win games if given the right setup. Revell tries hard but lacks the first touch of a top striker.

Both Healy and Danny Johnson along with Mason could inflict a lot of damage on Championship opposition if given the chance.

Time for a change - but is Slade up for it?
