I remember that day vividly and although for the neutral the game was a complete bore, for us City fans it was fantastic. When Dave Watson held that Cup aloft I had tears in my eyes, shame that the trophy used at the time looked like a can of dog food and was not the original though.

Welly, you only take the piss and say it's not a valid trophy because we've won it twice and you, the mighty blues, have never, ever won it! Dream on!

The first one a two-legged final v Rochdale, and an own goal winner in the second. <laugh>

It always makes me smile when you produce these self congratulatory 'history' threads, we've fried far bigger fish than you have and don't bang on about it half as much as you lot do. ;)<laugh>

Some of their players were in 'Escape to Victory' don't you know!

Though I believe Michael Caine and Sly Stone had to stand in for the footballing shots! <laugh>

I was there and it remains one of my most cherished and vivid memories as a young lad. I can only hope that my own kids get a similar opportunity and I despair when I see the cup competitions diminishing in importance.

The atmosphere was unbelievable. 100,000 supporters and nothing but friendship between the two sets of fans. I've always had a soft spot for Sunderland ever since.

I suspect at that age I probably expected cup finals to become a regular part of my life as a football supporter!

I was living in Kensal Rise at the time So took the bus a few stops up the road to Wembley. When I climbed up stairs on the bus to the top deck it was packed with rather inebriated Sunderland Fans. The only seat was at the front and they proceeded to pelt the back of my head with *** ends all the way up the Harrow Road. Still blame them for my incurable baldness. So glad we won. Fantastic day!
