The Wolverhampton stewards have, belatedly, announced a ten-day suspension for Kelly following his ride on Wickhambrook (3.10) today. It's difficult to argue with that - not seen anyone so rigidly immobile in a saddle since Charlton Heston at the end of El Cid. And no action, apparently, taken against the trainer.

ROTO, if you're there: I read your piece on Rio Ronaldo last Friday with interest, and I'm not having a pop because I'm well aware of your winner-finding record. But I very much doubt if you'll predict many Murphy winners by reading the form-book or the stable website.

Yep, one gospel in stock market investments is "never fall in love with a broker", or "banker", as the case may be. The same applies to horseracing, I would say, i.e. "never fall in love with a trainer", or "jockey", for that matter! Best to try to keep an open mind when studying form, surely?

The answer is that 8 days ago Mr Henderson entered Taylor in the Listed Mares Hurdle Final at Newbury – an indication of how highly she is thought by the way. However, the entry was refused as she wasn’t eligible to run in the race – I’m pretty certain that was because Taylor had only ran twice over hurdles and mares had to have run 3 races over timber in order to qualify.

However, and I do mean however, I’m sure this infringement wasn’t Mr Henderson’s fault but that of a minion. And I hope that the minion has been dealt with accordingly...

Sir Barney, for Christ's sake, Henderson, and/or his senior staff, should have been on the ball enough to have picked-up the error? To blame a 'minion' (even if it does mean 'a loyal servant', I still find it a somewhat disparaging and snobbish description) is usually crap. The buck stops at the boss in business (not politics, unfortunately), and in this case it was N.Henderson.

Swanny, me old love, you can only oversee a minion to a certain extent. There are times, unfortunately, when they put their head above the old parapet unsupported. Don’t worry though I’m sure Mr Henderson wasn’t too severe in his reprimand...

Well, that's good to hear, Sir Barney, everyone deserves a second chance. Am sure the culprit won't do anything like that again.
