Woke up this morning still grinning! What a result!

When I saw the line up, mixed thoughts - very pleased we appeared 4-3-3, couldn't work out what Sears was doing on the bench. Varney!?!? Wood!?

As it turned out, Varney until subbed was our best player by a country mile. Won everything in the air, and very good movement. This guy can shift! I was surprised how quick he was. Wood by contrast won nothing in the air, but was very strong with ball to feet.

First 25 I was expecting an onslaught. It never came, and we grew into the game. Sure Watford at times were fluid, and linking up some nice 12 - 15 pass moves which were pleasing to watch. However, the defence stood firm and didn't get done like helpless chickens.

Also, Watford registered ZERO shots on target all game. " Change the defence, what are you doing?" I hear people say. Well two clean sheets in two and I'll back Mick over computer warriors any day of the week.

Tabb and Skuse?! - Again I'll trust Mick thank you both had very decent games. Our passing game was much better than the Norwich game. Of course we went direct and played to our strengths at times, but we mixed it up.

Potentially Watford will feel hard done by but I don't mind, take what's given.

Only slightly nag being Smith doesn't feel comfortable on the ball and again doesn't deal with things before it bounces around. Mings needs a rocket up his ass, providing Parr is back fit given his suspension this may be a blessing in disguise.

Sears did very well when he came on - and fair shout to Chaplow - another player of " FFS MIck zero ambition bla bla bla bla " off many people - well you know what, again I'm trusting Mick.

Seven to play and I am going to believe. I hope this result can FINALLY persuade everyone to back Mick McCarthy 100% for the rest of this season. You never know, you may just enjoy the ride.

    SUPER MICK MCCARTHY.

The scenes when that goal went in were absolute mayhem!!!! What a feeling, what a win.

What an absolute crock of ****, Skuse was average at best, Tabb was pretty ****, we treated the ball like a hot spud and created nothing, zero quality on the ball and set pieces are very poor.
I think we got them on a good day for us, we put in a shift and i am overjoyed with the win but i am not blind nor deluded, you can rave about all these players as much as you like but at best they are average championship players!!

Have to say watching the match wasn't a great spectacle but the defence was very solid. This may be the only time I'll ever say this but 94 minutes of boredom and defensive football was worth it for that final minute!!!

We look so much better on the ball when Sears is on because he opens up space and just offers us another option. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Varney and Chaplow in the team, they both offer a bit of something on the ball, both were very good players at this level a few years ago.

As for Wood and Murphy, from that viewing I'm not sure I'd like to see them in the same team again as a 2 upfront, we lacked movement upfront and actually they didn't win a great deal in the air. For the amount of crosses that we put in the box, neither of them were anywhere near them either that's showing the poor quality of our crosses or they didn't do enough to attack these.

I also thought that the match didn't make the best viewing. The ball was in the air a lot but we got it done and what looked like being a solid point turned into three right at the end, a fantastic feeling.
Like most people, I really like Sears up top. He causes problems, keeps defenders guessing and stretches the play. I'm also very happy that he had the vision to spot Chappers' run. I honestly thought he was going to balls it up by going alone when it didn't really look on for him but he passed it to the right for the finish.
    Well played.

Westy, my posts were not meant to be disrespective but i dont agree with opinions regarding certain players but i do understand your enthusiasm and joy.
Varney should keep his place, Sears should start as too should Chaplow BUT that would mean dropping the likes of Tabb and Skuse, we all know that just aint gonna happen!!
Anyhow Westy, glad you enjoyed your day!!

Parr will be at LB so we might even see Young Connolly get some minutes.

I think we've missed the deliveries from both Ando and S Hunt recently. Paul put some great balls across the box yesterday and I would like to see him at RW if we play 4-4-2. There are quite a few seniors ahead of Connolly at the moment but it would be good to see him get a debut if the game allows it.

Remind me of how many shots on target Watford had on target all game? ZERO. Absolutely none. From inside the stadium Tabb was everywhere and much better. Skuse played reasonably well too. Not saying either are world beaters and at times they annoy me but if Mick wants to play them - fine by me.

I will remain upbeat until the seasons over, we can do this.

    Bish
    Chaplow
    Bru

    Varney
    Sears
    Murphy

Like the looks of that, but would swap Skuse for Bru.

Want Chaplow to start games - defo an upgrade on Tabby :)

" I also thought that the match didn't make the best viewing. The ball was in the air a lot "

Agreed - if it was on the deck for 90 we'd have lost 2 or 3-0 no questions asked so I'm not unhappy it was in the air a lot. We wanted it more than Watford.

Certainly am not - we're 6th with 7 games to go. I've not once this season thrown in the towel. I've not once when second thought it was a given. I've been consistent all season and will continue to be so :)

End of the day, we all want whats best - COME ON YOU BLUES :)

Thing is, its all very well being everywhere but the idea is to have an effect on the game, which Tabb did not do imo!! Hell we could sign Mo Farrah and get him to run like a headless chicken for 90 mins, he would probably have the same impact

We have already done that though haven't we, with David Norris?

Tabb did have a positive effect - he closed stuff down and stopped Watford playing. They had zero shots on targets which speaks wonders in how well the midfield worked. Of course, we could be braver in play and do more - but lets not forget it's top of the league fluid Watford away and remember our personnel. All 11 did their job to a tee on Saturday!

Not saying he was dynamic in play and doing through balls but he did his job very well.

However, always room for improvement :)

So if we'd managed to have kept the ball for longer periods and not lost it straight away by aimless hoofs we would've lost? I have to say we may not have been able to match Watford in terms of football but I'm pretty sure it would've been more comfortable for us if we played it on the deck keeping it away from the opposition for longer
