Exactly this. Refereeing mistakes are part and parcel of the game (as are the pub discussions about them). I don't want to see stoppages in the game every few minutes while we wait for a video decision. What I do want to see is a video review of player behaviour after every game, with retrospective cards being issued for play-acting (whether diving or appearing terminally injured after the slightest contact) and also for confronting the referee about a decision. If 10 players surround the ref issue 10 yellow cards. If they do it twice in the same match then 10 red cards. You can guarantee that managers would ensure that these behaviours stopped immediately or they would end up fielding the youth team due to all of the suspensions.
Don't know about you guys but one thing I've been in favour of for years is having an official time keeper. Take the time keeping out of the hands of the referee. The clock starts at 90 minutes & when he blows for kick off starts counting down. When he blows, the clock stops. A bit like they do in boxing if you like. It would give the man in the middle one less thing to concentrate on.
I like the idea of it in it's pure and innocent principle but we all know just how it will be badly abused on the continent, then spread it's way into English football. The face holding/head injury fake is something I guarantee you will make it's way from Spain into the PL within 5 years. They know the ref has to stop the game for head injuries so they fake them. Stick a 20 game ban on that and it'll cut it out before it creeps into the game worldwide. Television replays are good in principle, but not for every decision, I don't want this sport turning into some stop-start farce like American sports. Put clever people at the top of this sport instead of fat, corrupt ****ers and the problems will all be sorted in a few years.
I`m not sure the stop/start argument holds that much water tbh. When throw ins are taken quickly they tend to be ignored as interruptions. I`m hoying this into the mix (somebody will have some figures. Bri?) but I would guess that if the throw ins, corners and goal kicks for both sides was added together, on average, there would be at least 20 natural stoppages per half. Possibly more. I reckon there`s more natural stoppages than we realise but most of them go unnoticed. Anybody got any figures?
It's what can be created from the rules Pops, do you think Mourinho would at 1-0 up with 3 minutes to go, not challenge every offside decision just to stop the flow of the game? It's fine saying 'give each manager 3 challenges' but it just wouldn't work for me. You'd have managers with 3 left at the end of the game, wasting time with them. The rule needs refining way too much for it to work. Goal line tech is great, if we fetch in video replays I'd say it should only be used for red card situations.
I reckon limiting the challenges to say one per half would work. It would more or less force managers not to waste them when there might be a red card or penalty later. There`s no reason why the clock should be allowed to run while they look at it.
Sky would probably be happy to provide the analysis for them, in real time. Not sure how it would work in minor leagues though. Some of these decisions split the panels of pundits on Sky as well remember. Too much for me.
Agree. Full of ex-scousers thinking they know everything. Souness and Redknapp should be forced to apologise every time they begin to speak and again when they finish speaking.
Good read that. Wouldn`t you think that, with the referees getting slaughtered every week, they`d be the ones shouting for help?
They are mate but for all the wrong reasons. It seems like once they`ve made a decision, under no circumstances ever change their mind.
Could be, or it could be a stubborn power trip fueled by inadequacy. **** knows mate but they're embarrassing.
