2 defeats in 10 games. We actually got over 50% possession in a game as well. Just seen the highlights on the FL show. Looks like we strung a few passes together and created other chances. Was that about us playing well or them being crap. Didn't see enough in the highlights to comment. One questions from the FL show, what the hell was that sage green kit Bolton were wearing? not only a win for city, but a correct score prediction by remote!!! mid table mediocrity would do me in the prediction league Sparkey. Not sure I'll get there though 5551, not a bad shout, Sade could be a smooth operator as a manager!!!
Yep - very strange how he's put 13 away so far init. He should have made it 14 yesterday though - that was terrible finishing.
Apart from a very good finish at Fulham and when the Leeds keeper chickened out of a challenge, has he scored any with any other part of his anatomy except his head?
Sparks to answer my question, last time we won 7 points out of 9 was again under Slade Nov-Dec 2014 against Reading, Watford & Rotherham. We did not do it once under OGS. Last time before Slade was in Feb 2013 against Leeds, Huddersfield & Bristol City. I would never have picked Slade myself but lets be honest he came into a club in turmoil, our best players had shown their loyalty before the season started, OGS had lost the plot and the dressing room with factions amongst our players. I listened to Jason Perry over the radio and his opinion seemed fair to me, he said with all that was going on and a number of players who did not want to play for Cardiff City that he would judge Slade from March on, because it took that long to weed out those players. Psycho, has criticised Slade many times but has he said that Slade is slowly moving things on and now has a team that all want to play for him and more important Cardiff City.
I think it is Trollope who is influencing our play but in fairness it wasn't Slade's choice to be lumped with Young!
Dai - we fluked all 7 of them too. We were 2-0 up at the break against Reading and they had a man sent off before half time. They came out and mullered us in the second half with ten men - we were terrible and very very lucky to hold out. Watford all but wiped the floor with us but a tap in from ALF took the points - another case of rough justice. As far as the Rotherham home game was concerned, we were as bad as I can remember in a long time, but blagged a point from a better side. Anyway, we can shout about it back and forth all day, but the significant thing for me is where were all the "Slade lovers" when he was serving up **** for half a season? They seem to come out of the woodwork now we've won a couple of games. For me he has done nothing so far - when he does, I'll be the first to say so. Whoops makes the point about Trollope's presence now - there could be a lot in that. I don't buy the sympathy thing for Slade over the club's alleged off field policies. He's had more than enough to work with and we should have been at this stage and winning games long before now. Have something to aim for rather than seeing the season peter out would have been the least we should have expected. The call for players to regroup and put in performances for the last 8 games is scant reward for supporters who have had a season-long of watching crap served up.
I prefer Revell to Jones at the moment. At least he seems to show some effort. Kennedy is a gem. As ling as we don't try to get too much out of him too soon, I'd like to think that we can build our team around him. He's intelligent, and seems to make time slow down around him. I'm very excited by him. Ralls was excellent as well. There are reasons to be quietly optimistic. However, we need a proper goal scorer. Macheda has definitely lost some weight and has gained some pace, but I can't see him improving enough to be that man. Summer will be interesting. I presume Tan wants to be in the Premiership....
sorry Blue. She wouldn't be able to beat Sparkey's King of Sorrow. As for alternatives we shouldn't think about DJ as it's Never as Good as the First Time. A new manager would be the Sweetest Gift though.
Sparks as you know I go back to 1968/9 season and that quote could be about 90% of the seasons since then.
Agree Dai. You seem to be about the same vintage as me - I was 11 and there when Hamburg dumped us out of Europe on that night in '68. I do remember stuff before that season, but that's about the time the real memories started to kick in. The big change is that we half expected it back then and took it on the chin with a shrug of the shoulders, whereas now things have become far too serious in the game. Although we've been through a pile of crap as a club this past 45 years, that doesn't give the present encumbants the right to dish up the **** we've watched this season because it's "our way". That was then - this is now. We should be doing far better this season than we've managed and going forward not backwards given the investment into all areas of the club these past few years. The fact that we are not is down to the sheer incompetence at upper management levels at the club. Decent decisons at all levels up there would have made all the difference. Unfortunately for Slade, and this is nothing personal toward him, he is in the front line and will get take the flak for what we have to watch. In my view, and I doubt it's only me, he could have done a lot better on the pitch with what he's been given despite the background stuff off it. I don't believe he is deliberately hiding behind the financial issues, I just think he's not up to the huge task asked of him.
I would wish rather more in hope than expectation that the club will come out pre season and tell the fans what the plan for the future of the football club is. As a football fan, I want to see good football and good football matches. I do not want to see negative, dull, incompetent and technically poor football. I'd be quite content for a few seasons in this league so long as I see good attacking open football with a high tempo and some quality. My concern is that with this manager we will not get this. Mid table at best. If Mark Warburton is being axed at Brentford, then sign him up.
Warburton is a great example of what can be done on a limited budget with the right players (even though mainly from lower leagues) and positive, motivational management. I would love to see us get him. He also can spot good youngsters at bigger clubs who need plenty of game time, e.g. Alex Pritchard from Spurs, easily the best player I have seen in the Championship this season.
