lowly Varsity city Oxford visit Varsity Town today. lying in 19th place and with fans planning to unfurl a banner "Appleton Out" town must do everything to encourage the banner to be unfurled. Town need 3 points to go with those 3 richly deserved up the M6. with Larence and Mangen fit there will be competition for a team place in our run in of 5 home games and 4 away. 1-0 to town but expect more and a crowd of say 5111. COYB FS AJ Devon. still hoping to come up next month for town v Exeter.
We do need a win as ever! It would be good to get a streak of wins under our belt to secure an auto promotion spot, ideally with a chellenge to knock Burton off the top on the last day to keep the season interesting.
Good result but a poor game. Sharpe has admitted on Twitter that he had a poor game, yet MM stated that he shouldn't really have been given n a yellow for the second foul.
If playing poorly and winning is the sign of a good side then we are a VERY good side - I thought we were awful from start to finish and very lucky to win. Fair play to Leutwiler for some excellent saves (though his kicking would be more in place at Twickenham) and for the defence in toughing it out when we were down to ten men. The game was quite bizarre with most of it played at the pace of a pre-season friendly in front of a subdued crowd - you would never have guessed we were going for promotion. The midfield is a big problem for us as teams have sussed out we play everything through Woods so have put two men on him which completely disrupts us. Woods really needs a rest but we have no cover with Wildig loaned out again. How Sharpe can start ahead of Demitriou is completely beyond me - Sharpe no doubt has promise but looked far too inexperienced and should have been taken off at half-time. We saw very little of the energy and fluent passing that was evident in the Morecambe game and , with Bury winning again, it looks like it is going to be a real scrap for automatic promotion. Collins blazed one over the bar but apart from that the supply of any decent cross or even pass to the front men was completely lacking and I cannot remember us having so few attempts on goal in a home game this season. Come on MM sort this out - forget the long ball tactics and go back to getting us passing the ball again.
As bad as sticking pins in your eyes. Apart from the win, the only plus from the game was that MM didn't bring on Southern to "bolster" the midfield.
beginning to have second thoughts about blowing £200 to come up to Exeter game. it will be a very late decision judging by comments on here and b and a.
AJ, Sorry if I have put you off. Look at it from another angle - we need every supporter we can get at the moment. For me it was the worst performance I have witnessed from us this season (including the seven away games I have seen) but it probably can only get better (we hope).
I shall come up and expect to be in the railway inn yorton Friday night .coming up Friday returning early sunday I enjoyed town beating Cheltenham but not surrendering a 2 goal lead at Exeter.
