hi guys, just a quick one, is anyone concerned over our formation for next season?? Im a season ticket holder and i go to most away matches and i noticed in last 5 or so games that nige started experimenting playing 4-3-3?? I know we had a fantastic run and won emphatically but i must admit i noticed how vunerable and light weight it made the midfield look? Did anyone else notice this?? I worry against better championship opposition we may get exposed!!!!
I prefer to say the Nigel is flexible. The great thing is that if things don't look right he actually has some idea of what to do about it! Quite amazing in a manager in my experience.
Agreed. Definantly not something we could say about Pardew! As much as I liked him it was plan A or............. more of plan A!
I agree Fran, NA has more plans than an Architect!....We went with 433 at Brighton because there was no worth in 1 point, we needed the 3 points and we dominated that match albeit, winning it in the last 5 minutes. Alan Pardew did a good job here but he only really had 2 formations and he used 451 too many times which cost us a few points. NA lost as many games as AP but he found a way to win matches where we would have drawn under Pardew. His win ratio is very impressive and with the points system as it is, drawing too many games can be very costly.
Last season we played a lot of teams that parked the team bus so sometimes more flexibility was probably needed. I wouldn't expect Adkins to adopt another formation as standard, the coaches we have are experienced and will know what works well.
Pardew never played 433 he used defensive players in midfield, we played with a definate front three at Brighton.
Formations and tactics are the last thing I worry about with NA in charge. A quite brilliant tactician.
Yes formations are there for the individual players to play to instructuion. Have been watching a lot of continental teams. I may be wrong but they seem to be pushing more back players forward and just leaving almost 2 sweepers. It is yet another variation of attack is the better mode of defense. In fact in lay terms a 2-4-4. If you are against a footballing side it is great but not against the kick and run specialists.
Concerned? Quite the opposite! It's a nice dilemma we have. With the depth we have, we could play a number of players in a number of positions!
It will be interesting to see what formations the other teams use..presumably most will not park the bus. I bet Nige is spending vast amounts of time studying opposition tactics and let's not forget he has Championship experience and this time he has a better squad.
I quite like the fact we have a number of differen't options of how we can line up and if we're going to go offensive or defensive dependant on who we're facing , shows stength to me from Mr Adkins and doesn't really concern me looking forward to seeing Cork play , nice to see a versatile young home grown player as our first signing looking good with Schniderlin (21) , Lallana (23) , Cork (22) and Chambo (17) - if we hold onto the latter that is as the core of our midfield then we have the likes of Chaplow , Guly and Hammod in there to can't wait to see what sort of style we will be lining up in next year!
I'm not concerned, more excited that we have options. 451, 433, 442, whatever suits us best. I trust Adkins to get it right.
4-3-3 hasn't exactly worked for Real Madrid or Barcelona so we should definitely be worried. Using our usual 4-4-2 formation which every England fan and Capello admits is outdated will be better. I love sarcasm. In all honesty, I feel the players we have are versatile and are willing to play in any formation. I also think the last 5 games of the season were to see our weakness' with certain formations, like you say. Weak in midfield? Welcome Jack Cork Stability and strength.
