From the Telegraph: Liverpool vs Manchester United is close to becoming football equivalent of two bald men fighting over a comb. [ ] Old rivals meet at Anfield on Sunday in crucial game for Champions League qualification, but fact that sides are fighting for fourth rather than title is a low point for the fixture.. Yes the title is not at stake. But these days a CL place is as important if not more. PS: What a ******ed author. When was this fixture ever a fight for the title between the 2 sides?
Liverpool will win this being the form team and have the better manager.......3-1 Liverpool im afraid to say...
If Utd play like they did in the first half against Spurs they have a great chance. If they play like they have done for the rest of the season they could get bummed. obviously it all depends on what team LvG puts out. Hopefully he will keep Carrick and Herrera in the centre of midfield.
That would be too ****ing obvious for LVG. He'll as usual want to spring a surprise. For the RS it is almost a must win as they would want to avenge their drubbing at OT and also have the psychological advantage and boost of overtaking United. It won't be a disaster if we draw. Although a win will be massive.
Can't wait for this game now. LVG just needs to start the right midfield, which after last week is a no-brainer. Quite content about everyone writing us off. If we beat them 3-0 with the same players as last season, I'm confident we can cause them more problems with the players available now.
Every pundit in the media (TV and papers ) is making the RS favourites. Not a single one is giving United any chance of getting a point from this game. So nothing to lose. The players should relax and give it a go.
Understandable, Liverpool the only undefeated team in 2015. Remember Arsenal, undefeated in 49 games, everything comes to an end, that`s how records are made
True, when we dominated you lot were not even on the radar as a club, but I suspect you are only counting from when Sky came along As for this? "Yes the title is not at stake. But these days a CL place is as important if not more." To the club financially maybe, but to us fans, the PL is the the ultimate prize. Maybe winning so many has lessened it's worth in your eyes
That's bizarre when you think about it. The two most successful clubs in England by a long long way, and yet neither was really anywhere in terms of challenging for the league when the other was dominant. You have to go back to the 1964 before we we ever in a genuine battle for the league right up until the end of the season. IIRC you guys beat us with a few games to go and took first, but if we'd won that game we could have gone on to win the title. So the last time a fixture between the two clubs was a genuine battle for the title was over 50 years ago Context my boy, context. Since the CL was expanded no club has ever won the PL without qualifying for the CL in the previous season. For all the banter about a part time season, being in the CL is important for both clubs if they want to be challenging for titles in the future. Utd will struggle if we have a second season out, and it will start to harm our ability to attract the best, and after all the progress last season Liverpool can't afford to go back into the relative obscurity of the EL just when they were starting to rebuild their profile and be considered by the top players again.
Nice thought but given City, Arsenal, Spurs and Saints all won not quite so easy to put into practice. There's our position in the top four right now to lose for a start. I'd definitely be happy with a draw in this one as Liverpool and Arsenal play each other next time out but the reality is the pressure is on to win.
Objectively, as a big club United will be able to withstand a year outside the PL more than the RS. Yes, it will affect the prestige of the club, and it will decrease the club's ability to attract some of the very best players. But it is nothing that the club cannot recover rapidly from. Paradoxically the global following of United actually increased in the last 18 months when the team has been doing relatively badly. The idea (or hope from ABUS) that United's following will crash because of United not winning or challenging for the title is nonsense. Yes, if United were to go on a period of mediocrity like the RS in the last two decades, possibly. But a few years outside the CL is not going to do lasting damage. The global following increased when United were relegated FFS.
We really should win... you've only played well for 45 minutes. But I am fully expecting a drab 1-0 loss. LVG must have made a deal with the devil to get the results you're getting.
