    In my opinion:

To win the league we would need: 11 first team players and 2 back up centre backs. Complete replacements, none of the existing first 11 are championship challenging quality. Some would do as subs. Estimated bill £300+ million.
To finish top 4 we would need: 8 first team players (Krul, Janmaat (at a push, Debuchy was way better) and Sissoko might get a place) and 2 back up centre backs. Estimated bill £150-200 million
To finish top 8 we would need: 6 first team players (CB, CB, LB, CM, CM, RW). Estimated Bill £60-120 million
To finish top 10 we would need: 4 first team players (CB, CB, LB, CM). Estimated bill £25-50 million
To stay up we would need: 3 first team players (CB, CB, LB). Estimated bill £15 million.

Obviously, that's taking into account the quality sliding down as you go as well. Genuinely, if we stay up next year with zip investment, I would admire Ashley's resolve.

Pointless having all these "worldy" players if we still have JC and his ****ey coaches at the club!

They should be gone first and then we can see where we are at!

Klopp could be leaving... Wants to head to the premier league.... You heard it hear first.

In all honesty noone could win having to put williamson, obertan, ameobi, riviere, and raylor every week. That being said I gave JC a shot, but he blew it. When you continue to start Riviere and sammy when perez and cabella are fit, it costs you your credibility. I do think we will need 60m invested to get into europa league. I think Lascelles will come good and we will get a few peanuts for Mike and the other bums. We need a 1 starting CB, 1 backup if colo goes, a new CM, LW, RW, and a striker who can score. The problem is we've just bought players, they are scrubs and will be tough to move. (Whos going to buy riviere?) Europa league would be a start for us.

The club will do the bare minimum.

    As always.

We could sign Messi tomorrow and he would get Carvered up.

We need to get rid of almost the entire squad and the coaching staff. Carver, Stone, Woodman etc are absolute ****ing dogshite. Take them down to Monument and drop them off the top. It would do everyone a favour.

The squad - Sammy, Obertan, Gouffran, Anita, Dummett, Williamson and Riviere are simply not good enough. Colo, Jonas and Raylor are past it. Tiote has been **** for a couple of years, Sissoko doesn't want to be here, Cisse spends more time on the sidelines these days. Colback, Krul, Janmaat and Perez are the only ones I would even consider keeping. Possibly Abeid as well. Play the young kids for the rest of the season to see who can make it.

I expect to see very little business and JC in charge. We might sign 4 or 5 but it will be paid for by the likes of Krul, Tiote, Perez, Janmaat, Sissoko. Any or a combination of those.

The Newcastle meaning of 'investment' is selling 4 and bringing in 5 cheap players who don't actually improve anything. An absolute shambles.

I think the only thing which will knock sense into fat Mike would be relegation.
I'm loathed to even think about it but if we continue on the same track for the ext 2 years we will be relegated.
Having said that, it may hasten his departure so sometimes you need to take one step backwards to take one forwards.

I think we are prime candidates next season. We need at least 7 players, a whole new coaching set up and a new manager that knows what he is doing.

No chance of Klopp. AT ALL. 0%.
Why? Because of the stupid system in place. No self-respecting high level manager is going to become a puppet for the club, to face the media alone in midst of tough situations, and have someone else call the shots at the transfers taking place. Why would Klopp want to put himself in that kind of situation?

And as for investment in the summer, it's gonna be the usual script isn't it? Sell our quality players, bring in a few cheap ones, try to scrape through the season. Forget about even winning the league, or champions league, this club has no ambition. Our only purpose is to make profits!

You missed out the two or three star players who we negotiate with all summer but just fail to get them over the line before the transfer window shuts.<cheers>

Whats the optimal start to the summer for me?
Announcing Andre Ayew early. Using that as a means of intent to spend to get a decent caliber coach in. I'd even take Sean Dyche if Burnley go down. I think they play good stuff but have no quality outside ings.

I'd like to see us try for Ings. Never happen but he's quality. Ayew is a good player, similar to Loic Remy, but not quite the mercenary.

3 more than that I think. Colo and Jonas were good in their day but that day has past. I have no actual empirical evidence that De Jong plays football

The bigger problem is that, unlike last time we were relegated, we don't have the players to get back up. We had 'fighters' like Barton, Nolan, Carroll. Players like Jonas, Colo, Raylor, Saylor were younger and fitter. Hell even Shola scored a hat trick.

If we go down we'd lose Janmaat, Sissoko, Krul, Perez, Cisse as a minimum. What we'd be left with wouldn't even finish mid table in the Championship. It would well and truly be slippery slope time.

^^ 'beelin' as some on here would say.

Carver claims to be in the know ? Since when had Ashley and Co confided in the likes of him?
Carver says there will definitely be investment and that he has seen who the club are looking at.
We have "looked" at lots of really good players season upon season, but never secure the majority of them. I for one am not holding my breath.
It also seems a coincidence that as attendances slowly wane, hey presto an announcement from the club.
    Just blowing smoke!

Didn't Pardew say last summer that Ashley was going to invest seriously last year?

If so, can't say his definition of investing seriously comes from the same dictionary that I use.
