Eric Dier did it earlier this season. Said something about wanting to keep training as a centre half while England were gonna use him as a full back and he thought it'd be detrimental to his development.

I'm about as big a fan of Ince as we've got, cos of his obvious talent, but I agree that him and his dad both come across like a pair of twats.

Why do we get this attitude here
Other countries players jump at the chance
    Over inflated opinion of themselves

Most of us despise the England team at the moment. It's shocking the lack of ability and effort we see every sodding game. The way the team is picked is ****e. The manager is a dick.

Yes I know this is the U21s, but the first team is the aim.

At least he's being honest, and knows that all he's likely to get is an injury and **** all else, so, good on him.

    Agreed.

I don't think Duncan Ferguson thought much to his claims...

Not seen that before. Ince getting up ready for afters until he sees who tossed him to the floor is quite funny.

Whatever his reason I admire him for having the guts to come out and say he doesn't want to play, rather than turn up and play half arsed.

His place will go to someone who genuinely values it and is happy to be there, that can only be a good thing.

No footballer should turn down the chance to play for his country no matter what the level unless he is at retirement/veteran age, Ince is either himself very stupid or arrogant or badly advised. Playing football is an age related thing and he will most likely never get to play for England again, as he isn't good enough. His dad has been called out on being arrogant but at least he had the talent to back that up, with Ince jr. he is only proven at Championship level and maybe not even at that properly.

We don't know his reasoning though, people are assuming he thinks he's too big for the under 21's and that may well be true.

But there's just has much chance he's been carrying small injuries throughout the season and needs a break before the next domestic season, it's a big season for him in terms of his career and if that's the case he's doing the right thing.

Do you want me to move this to the Jelavic injury thread?

Players should jump at the chance of playing for their country, I always look on the positive side and hope there's a rational explanation as to why he can't or won't play for them.

Either that or he's just a complete and utter ****.

Why should any player jump at the chance to play for England? We want our players to be successful, coming from Hull, however, now Jelavic is injured, I've read at least 2 posts about needing to get N'Doye out of the Senegal International.
Can you imagine what would have happened if Hudds & Davies had gone to the World Cup last year, there would have been an outcry, having said that there has been most of the season, so at least they'd have had an excuse.
Some players just don't have that passion, I don't know why, Rooney loves it as did Beckham, most of us probably would too. Sometimes though they just need to be able to play for the manager & RH doesn't seem to be able to motivate them. Bobby Robson & Venables could, however Graham Taylor couldn't?
I'd rather watch England with an English manager doing ****, than have some mercenary like Sven come in & still do nothing. I hope the FA don't go down that route again!

Other countries take U21 football far more seriously than we do. They pick the best teams they can under the eligibility criteria, work with them, develop them, go to championships and win them. They use the competitions as a key part of their overall, integrated development system, and direct parallels can be drawn, in terms of appearance and success, between the sides that have performed well at U21 Euros and those that perform well at full Euros and World Cups 6 or 8 years later. Germany and Spain are two recent example.

We are light years behind, still seeing the two entities as essentially separate.

We are international non-runners because we are international slow starters.

That said, this is irrelevant in Ince's case because he is not good enough to play for England.

    Or, indeed, Hull City.
