On Loan. Bizarre move. Thought he was great backup. http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/connolly-joins-watford-on-loan-2346042.aspx
Bloody hell, didn't see that coming. He has played well lately and worth his place in the team even if Peltier is fit. That leaves us short of cover at right and centre back. With Turner injured Gabbidon is our cb cover and just Peltier/Fabio at rb. Is his contract up at end of season? Is he a high earner? Another one ticked off Slade's list? From his perspective a chance to get 4th Championship/Prem promotion. That could well be a record. Also, from Barnet originally so effectively going home. Has been a very reliable squad member for us and I wish him well. If a permanent move I hope we get good money for him in summer.
Ridiculous decision. We've just given away one of the best defenders in the squad. Demonstrates the level of ambition for the rest of the season.
This move proves what many on here have thought for a while. The lunatics are running the asylum. Nine players unavailable for our next game and we loan out one of our better performers. Just how much trouble are we in financially?
Don't understand that one. Matt has been one of our better performing, more dependable full backs and potentially leaves us short of cover.
Slade must be interrogated on this at his press conference tomorrow. For me the only acceptable reason would be personal/family issues for Connolly which necessitated a move back to north London.
Sorry, repeating myself. PC playing up. Sparks, please delete one of the above comments. Thanks. EDIT - job done Bluey.
A disgraceful decision. Totally p!ssed off with the way the club is being run. Good luck Matt your better off out of it.
Been busy today (have to earn to pay off the bookie ) so hadn't seen this news. Absolutely unbelievable decision to let Connolly go out of the squad. Unless there's something behind the scenes that we don't know about, that decision sums up the sheer ineptitude of the clubs player management. With Turner out for the season, I can only imagine that Slade is relying on Manga and Morrison to see it out - that could be disastrous unless he's thinking about playing either Peltier or Malone in there. So much for suggesting the players in the squad need to prove themselves for the rest of the season - what chance has Connolly got now? Bluey - I'll delete that double post of yours now.
Crazy decision again. Just as I was starting to get a little hope back. I can only see it as a cold business decision. We aren't going anywhere this season, fairly safe, no chance of playoffs. They've paid a fee and pick up his wages for the rest of the season. In return he may just help Watford over the line.
Just don't understand everyones surprise at this news. If this shocks you you'd better prepare yourselves for the summer sales lads. There will be a huge clearance sale of high earners, with bargain bin replacements. He's recouping his money.
I think we are all prepared for our top players and earners to be sold. But this is Connelly we are talking about. A solid Championship squad player. If we cant keep Connelly weve got major problems. Can we recall Oshilaja?
Totally irrelevant in Tan World Hilts. Russ Abbot will be expected to contact lower league replacements in the hope that a few diamonds can be unearthed. Next season will be about staying in the Championship.
If this decision is anything to go by you can forget about staying in the championship. We could be relegated with a record low points total.
Recouping his money, surely means...........recouping some money? The amounts involved are a drop in the ocean compared to what he has put in. The only way he will see that again is by establishing us in the top tier.
If this is an exercise in getting us in-line with the FFP rules, then it is logical to reduce the wage bill. I don't know the penality for breaching the rule but it may be harsh given how the squad is being culled. It is also self defeating as our higher earners are the (usually) the better performers. As they sell/loan out more players and the crowds reduce, surely it is a never ending spiral? Unless there is a break even point I don't see a good outcome.
He was signed from PL QPR by the MM, Moody axis of transfer wisdom. He could be earning anything and I bet he's not cheap! As a football decision it's mental, if they've paid a fee and are picking up serious wages maybe the people running the club aren't as stupid as we're making them out to be. There's no arguing out season is totally dead in the water, will it really make a difference if a youth team full back/ralls/gunnar has to cover a couple of games?
